Re: Rumour - Rob Dickie

and we're skint I don't think that is the case, we are just having to work within FFP rules. The Chinese have never shown an unwillingness to put money in. FFP rules are going to have to be relaxed to allow owners to inject cash to keeps clubs afloat. Worth sticking a cheeky bet on 2021 promotion? ...

Re: Biggest Reading FC injustices

Foul on Nicky Shorey at Man City in the last minute of our second relegation season match. Goal given, lost one nil. Good shout. Also remember Torres scoring when a yard offside at Stamford Bridge when we looked good for a point. We went down comfortably that season, but you do wonder if a great re...

Biggest Reading FC injustices

In keeping with several threads asking people to reminisce, I'm doing one on the worst refereeing injustices we've had. 2 stick in my mind: 1) Jason McAteer not getting sent off for the penalty at Wembley. Yes, Archie should have scored and we should have won anyway, but the comeback was never on if...

Re: Rumour - Olise to Celtic

Any bid has to be stupid money. Otherwise they can oxf*rd off. Olise will probably be worth more in a couple of years time anyway, so good grounds to simply reject anything.

Re: Players who virtually won us games/promotion/avoided relegation on their own

I do think we’d have stayed up if Coppell had been less loyal to Sonko and instead picked someone more reliable, like Andre Bikey. But the margins were so narrow that we can blame literally everyone and still be correct. Failing to put the finishing touches to signing Gary Cahill didn't help As I r...

Re: Players who virtually won us games/promotion/avoided relegation on their own

And conceding in at least two of those games very late on. It's almost as if the goal difference wasn't the problem in the end Lost 3-1 at Fulham and also lost 2-0 at home to them. I believe that on both occasions their final goal came in injury time of each game, if Reading had managed to keep bot...

Re: Any player you recall who virtually beat us on their own.

I seem to remember Brian Jensen managing to single handedly keep us out for Burnley a couple of times. We had a couple of losses at Turf Moor which were daylight robbery.

Re: Any player you recall who virtually beat us on their own.

Remember that game stopped Bournemouth reaching the play offs and they moaned about us trying to buy our way out of the League because of the Butler signing. Ironic now given how much they spent to get promotion from the Championship. Combined with how most of the major money they've spent in the P...

Re: Players who virtually won us games/promotion/avoided relegation on their own

Great shout on Fozzy in 02/03. I still think we'd have won the playoffs without his injury against Wolves. Not sure how Harper won POTS.

Moore in 17/18 is not a bad shout. Very good season in a poor team. No surprise Brighton were interested at the time, but he hasn't really kicked on since then.

Re: Ex -Player Podcasts (Cureton/McShane)

Sutekh Elm Park Royals has posted a couple more podcasts with Nicky Shorey and Simon Osborn

Good listening. I'd have grilled Shorey on his poor form in 07/08, including his aberration of a performance against Fulham, a little more though.

Re: Any player you recall who virtually beat us on their own.

Peter Whittingham had a good game against us once. Scored a 30 yard + screamer and set up their second as we lost 2-1. Fairly even game otherwise and he was definitely the difference.

Chris Makin in 05/06. Only played a small role, but filled in for Shorey for over a month and we barely missed him. Decent shout to John Oster that season too.

My shout is Marcus Williams. How many games did he play? Or if it's not too harsh on a 19 year old, Joao Virginia.

Re: Finance

its an odd one that 7k limit. I can see the benefits, but how does it work if a team gets relegated from the Premier, and a player is on 50k a week? Also, if any sort of normality is returned, nearly all players will be on 7k. Where is the motivation to push yourself for a bigger wage? Or will bonu...

Re: Finance

I have 2 big financial thoughts from the current situation. One small positive and one big concern. Firstly, surely FFP will have to be relaxed in the short term? Could this get us off the hook in the short term? The concern is around economic fallout and geo-politics. A recession is coming and we a...

Re: Finance

Bollocks. Dress it up how you want, but spending way more than your income and selling assets to yourself is getting into debt and circumventing the rules. A few years here and there to make a big step followed by paying it off. Fine. But this is a decade of miss spending on shit to a huge scale. I...

Re: Finance

So, should we be selling and looking to use Holsgrove, Odimayo, Burley, House, Holmes, Smith, East, Watson, Osho, Southwood, CBC et al? Because its easy to say in hindsight we should have used all those academy players. We've used the academy lads fairly well this year. But absolutely we should be ...

Re: Finance

Back in the day, Hammond, McDermott and co. would have already scouted the lower leagues for a good, affordable replacement for Moore or Swift. We'll see where we're at now. If we sold them only to spunk a load of money on a replacement, it defeats the point. Ejaria and Olise show a succession plan ...

Re: Championship group administration possible ???

Wage caps would need to be global Enforce one here and everyone would disappear to countries where there wasn’t one. It’s why so many overseas players are in England’s - there is a differential between what they earn here and what they earn in the rest of the world. Now it might be a good thing to ...
