Re: Worst Reading Player

I know his name has already come up but surely Hope Akpan has to win this hands down. Not once do I ever remember him kicking the ball in the direction he intended to. Truly woeful. Whatever was Coppell thinking? Honorable mention to Liam Rosenior. He might have got away with his totally limited st...

Re: Worst Reading Player

After a couple of shaky early displays, Joey turned out to be absolute quality.

Re: Finance

Yeah but you are going down a rabbit hole with that discussion really. Compared to other areas of society who earn plenty - I dunno Bankers maybe - they should be earning a lot more I mean they have tons of pressure, need to be super talented, short career, and indirectly probably employ an awful l...

Re: Finance

Yeah but come on - to be a champ footballer takes a hell of a lot more effort than a 27k p/a year generally. They are basically employed for the age of 8, deal with all sorts of pressure and disappointments, play in front of 30k knobheads calling your a pcunt and criticising your every move etc Fin...

Re: Finance

I don’t know whether the £7k a week wage cap is feasible but going forward wages need to be significantly lower at Championship level and if it means players go abroad so be it. Bless them they would still be on £350k a year so I’m sure the little poppets could cope. It’s very difficult to see how ...

Re: Finance

Edit - I suppose that Brexit does give us the opportunity to create some new migration rules preventing players from leaving. How could any migration rules stop people from leaving ? It's the receiving country that have the sole jurisdiction on migration There are several historical and a few curre...

Re: Finance

I did mention a wage cap earlier in this thread & someone said it was a stupid idea. Now the EFL are talking about it. Maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea after all...! I don’t think it’s the case that players will shoot off to other European leagues, as most likely wholesale changes to wage struct...

Re: Finance

So,if it came in next season you would have to dispose of excess players, or keep paying them ? I’d assumed it was a way of enforcing lower budgets but having players you can’t use but have to keep paying would be tricky. It’s a situation that already exists. The Premier League has a 25 man squad l...

Re: Finance

What would happen to players 25 and 26 currently contracted to a club ? Would the rule only kick in in 3 years time ? Or would’ve clubs be stuck with paying a player they couldn’t use ? Doesn’t give huge scope for injury cover, presumably you could furlough long term injured ? Would transfers be on...

Re: Worst Reading Player

Vydra was class, except that he couldn’t finish.

Carrico had a poor debut but his performance against Liverpool was top drawer.

Cywka was more forgettable than anything. Four games at the Madejski that season, scored one goal... against us.

Simon Cox? Two spells with us but probably best remembered for Swindon and West Brom.

Re: We simply must top this list.............

Forest fans seem to think they should win it because they were European Champions a few years later, ignoring that they were nothing special when they were actually in this league!

Re: Worst ever Reading FC X1

Rather irrationally it really annoys me when it's quoted that the point at Leicester got us promoted. Not true as a defeat would still have seen us promoted given Leeds failure to beat Stoke at home and Watford losing at home to Millwall http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/4819702.st...

Re: Worst ever Reading FC X1

Never forget that Asaba scored the goal that got us promoted to the Premier League. Well, Kevin Doyle scored the goal for us in 2006 and Mikel Leigertwood scored the goal in 2012. If Asaba scored a goal somewhere on those days that meant another team couldn’t catch us, then sorry, that does not qua...

Good selection.

Re: Most nondescript XI

Would perhaps throw Joe Mills into the mix, although IIRC he was slightly unlucky in his brief spell here Jake Taylor was a bit meh too, would put him with the likes of Ryan Edwards Joe Mills is a good shout but he’s competing with Marcus Williams at left back and Alex Smith on the left wing. Jake ...

Re: Ngel Howe on radio

Definitely wouldn’t rush to judgement. Historically we’ve employed a few players who used their wages to support charities in their home countries. We don’t know if perhaps one or two players are holding out because they think bleeding a couple of rich Chinese people and their rich British football ...

Re: Ngel Howe on radio

The bit about selling Teddy so he didn’t feel conflicted is a kick in the teeth. Imagine if Middlesbrough had release Ben Gibson for the same reason, or if Maradona hadn’t called up Aguero when he was Argentina manager. I’m not one of the Gunter haters but it’s hard to see where we’ll find a full ba...
