Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Ha, so they did. First game of the season as well. Proving to be as predictive as our opening day defeat to Plymouth in 05-06.

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Here's a good stat, inspired by Liverpool's 7-2 defeat at Villa and their topping the table (for now). The biggest margin of defeat in a season by a team that subsequently wins the league is six goals - a joint record held by Benfica - who lost 7-1 to Sporting in 86-87 but went on to win the league,...

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

Five wins from five and two goals conceded since Van Dijk was injured - through a combination of Fabinho, Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams partnering Calamity Joe Gomez. Obviously Van Dijk remains their best defender, but I wonder if there was a little complacency in Gomez or Trent ('Virg will tidy it...

Seven years in the top flight in their history - they only made it to the third tier in 2007, and out of the regional system in 1998.

BR0B0T 1 in 12 points at OT...very poor

Haven't won in 6 league games at OT now since thrashing Bournemouth in June. Can't have happened for a long time.

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Rangers have had a terrific start to the season. 16 wins and 2 draws, undefeated, 43 goals scored and just 4 conceded*. *and one of those was an own goal. And Milan back to winning ways behind a (okay, slightly ropey) bicycle kick from a 39 year old. https://sports.ndtv.com/football/wa...

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

Jota certainly a significant upgrade on Origi - and Klopp has showed already that he is prepared to play him with the front three, not just as a replacement to one of them. His first goal was rightly disallowed - it's an 'unlucky' foul, but Mane definitely takes out Ogbonna as he stretches for the b...

Re: VAR

Question for all on the Salah penalty - was this a foul? Salah was kicked, yes. So technically a foul. But it is never awarded (in my view not even on VAR) if Salah doesn't go down. And there was nothing about the foul that caused him to tumble to the ground. If they were awarded (as they should al...

CL semi-finalists last season, just four years after their promotion to the Bundesliga. And they have won of the best young coaches in the world in Nagelsmann. This is no fluke.

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Winston Biscuit In his resignation speech he says

“The Board of Directors has approved the acceptance of the requirements to participate in a future European Super League of Football Clubs, a project promoted by the big clubs in Europe.”

:? :o

Yeah, quits and then sets fire to the curtains on the way out.

I think he's saying that the players Maradona played with in '86 were no mugs, not least the '78 World Cup winning captain.

Re: Weekend Football

Agreed on Brentford - they looked good for a playoff spot from the middle of the season, but grabbed third by virtue of winning seven or eight in a row from March. Sadly for their fans I'm not convinced they've got another run at promotion in them this season, not least since losing Watkins and now ...

Re: Man CitHEHEHE

I'm taking a pretty wide view of world-class, i.e. not the dull 'would they get into a world XI'. Aguero, De Bruyne, Sterling, Mahrez, Laporte, Ederson would get into most or all first teams in the PL. Additionally, I don't think any club would turn down a reasonable chance to sign Foden, Gundogan, ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Blackburn Rovers (a) sponsored by Paul McShane

Seeing a lot of people claim we’ve not played anyone decent yet, do they not realise we’re the only side to beat Watford? That doesn't necessarily mean we played that well. Watford were very poor and we were workmanlike and solid. We have been extremely solid and robust, better than any other team ...

I think the red button picture quality relates to it being streamed, rather than piped direct to TV.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Blackburn Rovers (a) sponsored by Paul McShane

I'm trying to take a wider view of our excellent start and the fixtures ahead. We have four games in 12 days, starting tonight at Ewood Park. If we have seven wins at the next international break, we'll have a minimum of 22 points from our first ten games, which would be an excellent return. Eight w...

Re: Best Player in the World Ever

Maradona for me. I've always liked Argentina. And he played for Napoli. He was riding tackles in the age where you could go out and maim people. Amazing footballer and an absolute twat as well. So much more interesting than Pele. ^ This. One of those people who is a complete bellend but somehow als...

Bit concerned for Wycombe (0-0-7, two goals scored) that they might threaten Rotherham's miserable record low 23 points in the Championship.

Re: VAR

Ooh, a maths question. I like. There's two things going on with penalties. First, that more are being awarded. Second, that the continual 'refinement' of rules around the penalty kick are making them near impossible to keep out. So first, number of penalties, 30 so far this season in roughly six rou...
