Re: Champions League/Europa League 2019/20

I guess that's the problem when you play with 1 striker who is world class, i ts hard to keep a good back-up happy enough to stick around . Troy Parrott to get a chance? - maybe not in the starting XI. or give them enough game time to keep sharp. Easier said than done when you have someone like Kan...

Re: Champions League/Europa League 2019/20

Score draw for me. Think the new dutch lad they got looks pretty decent and Lucas Moura is good enough to give teams problems, but the loss of Son is massive for them. Both are wingers (as is Son, to be honest). It's a little embarrasing that a club of Spurs' stature let the striker situation get t...

Re: The generic transfer thread

I listened to two Rastas on the bus yesterday discussing how Uruguay's president or prime minister (they have a unitary government) lives in a shack (he doesn't) and how he legalised cannabis (it was never made illegal in the first place) and its smoked freely (uruguay has some of the most stringent...

Re: Football stats

Not just that, its so dependent on, in order of decreasing impact, the tactics of the team, the nature of the defenders in front, and then, finally, freak occurances, that I would expect the effects of that to dominate. Like fielding stats in baseball. The number of shots on target in a game is goin...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Leverkusen were the only team in the top 7 to win in Germany at the weekend. Bayern stay top with Leipzig 2nd and Dortmund 3rd Keeping one eye on Paderborn at the bottom. They looked early this season like they would get thumped every week but they are now only 1 point away from jumping out of the ...

Re: Football stats

Surely it also depends on where the shots are coming from. Are his defence serving up chances that are leaving him with no chance or is he constantly letting in shots he should save? Sure, but albeit over the course of the season, and for a team comfortably in the top half, you wouldn't expect that...

Re: 2019/2020 FA Cup

For all the "giant killing" talk, the FA Cup QF could easily be: Chelsea/Liverpool Man Utd Leicester Arsenal Sheffield United Man City Tottenham WBA/Newcastle So 6 of the top 7 in the league + Arsenal + another Obviously it's not set in stone and you'd expect 1 or 2 upsets but it shows ho...

Re: Second season success stories

Doyle scored his first goal before the end of August in 05/06 and eight before Christmas (23rd game that season was the 10th December). He scored 18 in total. Maybe a slow start in those very first games, but he was broadly consistent over the whole season with 4 goals every 10 games all season. Can...

Re: VAR

That's one of my big issues with VAR tbf, how far back is it worth looking at? It's mental that a corner can be given erroneously that a team could score from but VAR wouldn't be used to fix that clear and obvious error because the corner decision was such a long time before the goal. Offside calls...

Re: Second season success stories

Better example - Shane Long ... thought he was clueless for a long time, and then suddenly he came on fire ... and he's still playing in the Prem now. He surely has to be incredibly grateful to Steve Coppell for all he's achieved. Again, more to it. Came into the squad as an impact sub in a success...

Re: Second season success stories

Bobby Convey is the big exception that springs to mind, who had a very disappointing first season

Convey was some excellent man management. Club took him to one side, told him he was not fit/strong enough and helped him get fit/strong enough.

^ lovely stuff - cheers :D According to this , they've still got until this Friday (7th Feb), before they finalise games from 7th March onwards. Birmingham v Reading is unlikely to be picked, but you never know! I thought TV games for that weekend were sorted? https://www.live-footballontv.com/

Re: The generic transfer thread

A few younger players getting big moves - Rochdale's Luke Matheson (just turned 17) on his way to Wolves for £1m , which might prove a steal, and Wigan defender Antonee Robinson (22) is on his way to AC Milan  for £6m plus add ons. Also talk of Jude Bellingham (16 and established in the Birm...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Dembele is currently 5ft 3ins. Hope for his sake he has some growing to do. Can't think of many top level footballers of the stature even of Dennis Wise, who was 5ft 6ins. Xavi 5ft 7ins. Just had a quick look and it looks like Ryan Frasier is 5ft 4. Also, if your name is Dembele, does it automatica...
