M-U-R-T-Y

Can't see there is an existing recent/relevant post to this - Mods feel free to move/integrate - but I'm sure we'll all wish Murts the best and congrats on being announced as at least "interim" manager of Rangers until the end of the usual 'dead rubber' of a season up there. Significant ac...

Kevin Doyle

Ok prolly should be under AE but anyways just seen Doyler has announced his retirement from the game due to recurring concussion at the 'no' age of 34.

What the hell we could do with his like in his day right now!

Re: Renewed pessimism/interest

There's no movement off the ball, no confidence or flair to take people on. There's no obvious desire to win back the ball when it's lost, no tenacity. And there doesn't seem to be a backbone to this team. Where's the spirit? I see what you did there. Wasn't Tenacity, Spirit, Flair Pardew's Corners...

Re: Oxford - Reading

Remember those games. Just out of interest as I don't recall any such event, but did Reading actually ever 'take' an end/side? Not to my knowledge. Actually I can! 11 December 1976. FAC2. Wycombe 1 Reading 2 (Robin Friday both of them). Bitterly cold and snowy. At Loakes Park. "We" 'occup...

Re: Reading FC 1985/86

So gutted when Kevin Bremner left for Brighton. I heard a rumour that he had been refused an extra £50 a week in wages and got the hump so moved to Brighton who were a division below us at the time, then promptly helped them to promotion back to division 2. I remember his last game for us, the seas...

Re: Reading FC 1985/86

That was the season of the 4-3 home win against Plymouth 3-0 down against the team that were second in the table at the time, and with only c20 minutes left. For me that was the highlight of the season, not necessarily the 13 wins IIRC didn't Plymouth also hit the crossbar from some range after the...

Re: Which playoff final was worse?

Bolton of course I can still recall that feeling when 2-0 up and the penalty was missed Looking round there was anguish on everyone's face - no one said anything - they didn't need to - that was it, our chance had come and gone. That was the weirdest moment in football I have ever experienced. Even...

Re: Fulham prediction thread

I tossed a coin twice. Reading being 'heads' (obviously)

Fulham to win first game
Reading to win second game.

Tossed it a third time for the decider and Fulham won overall.

That's about as mathematical as you can get with the Play Off probabilities.

Re: Wigan (H) - Predictions

Half Biscuit Bad feeling.

Expected to win + Bogey team + Last home match + "We always bounce back" + "We only need a point for playoffs"
= 0-2 defeat

It happens. 0-2 Watford 2007, 2-3 Sheff Utd 2011.

Re: Loan players

K9hassel Ian Porterfield . Came back later to haunt us as a manager.

I remember Roger Smee took the unusual step of publicly advertising the actual salary for the Managers position, which was £60,000 per annum.
When was it? 1989?

Re: Team with most ex Reading players at one time?

I am sure that Aldersh*t must have had a few ex-Reading in any given line-up. Hmmm. Can only think of Wayne W-a-n-k-l-y-n, (to the Mods and youth on here, yes that was his real name.! Google it!!!), Tommy Youlden and Paul Bennett going from us to them. With Glenn Burville going the other way ( a bi...

Just want any sort of decent centre so there could some prospect of getting on the gig circuit for touring bands as it is quite pathetic that the Thames Valley/Berkshire has nothing to host decent size concerts on a regular basis Yea it is quite frustrating when watching TV and some band is on talk...

Players eligible for neither side: Al-Habsi, De La Cruz, Karacan, Kebe (?), Hurtado, Seol, Husin + the Korean kids. Only need one more to get us to a full team (four more if you don't include kids who never played for us). Anyone I'm missing? Naseem Bashir ----------------Al-Habsi------------------...
