Re: MATCHWATCH : Blackburn Rovers (h) sponsored by Gunnarsson hitting the bar

Saw a stat which said McCleary hasn't scored a goal in 47 league games, a truly embarrassing stat for a player that was finished two years ago Well if he was in fact finished 2 years ago it isn't that embarrassing is it? Even players that are well past their best can still chip in with goals and as...

Re: Next seasons kit choice?

Hound bit weird I thought them slashing the prices by 50% on all kits

not something they normally do is it?

A mate bought one the other week, when it was 70% off.

The guy in the hut outside the ground selling them said there was just a lot of stock to shift.

Re: Ex Players

Jamie Young, playing out his career in Australia with Brisbane Roar, does his own take on Schumacher / Battiston in the '82 world cup, taking out an Adelaide forward outside the area.

Brisbane, who had been 3-0 up (and still 3-1 up when he was sent off) lose 3-4, to a 97th minute winner.

Re: Those were the days...

Was thinking to myself actually how many times does anyone take a man on? I'm not necessarily talking about Reading here, no wingers ever seem to take on their fullback any more, it has to be passed round them now to get through Wing-play, and crossing to some extent, is almost a forgotten art. Too...

Re: BFTG Villa

Decent all round, without looking too menacing. Defending has improved massively, and confidence is back. Credit to jose, in a short space of time we've turned a corner. 2 months ago villa would've won that easily. I don’t understand this corner we have turned. We remain in the relegation zone and ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Bolton Wanderers (a) sponsored by the need not ot lose

The result tonight most definitely won't settle anything, but what it will do is give some indication of how far (or not) we've come under Gomes. A good win would make me confident of staying up. Another defeat caused by us just looking brittle and wilting under pressure, would put a big question ma...

To be honest, even if anyone had wanted to go, getting there would have been a nightmare tonight. Roads all chocka due to snow.

Re: Stadium screens

And I was incensed that the ref didn't allow that goal! I didn't live in the Reading area and media coverage was nowhere near as good back then, so it wasn't until the start of the next season that I learned that there was a very valid reason why he had disallowed it! They had highlights on M...

Re: Weekend Football

For me the problem is that it's also still a matter of opinion and so even on review it comes down to what that official thinks at that moment in time. That's the nuance I was trying to pull out. In cricket, the umpire gives his opinion, and if technology says it's a close call, it stays with his o...

Re: BFTG Forest Home

Royalty Creeps in...... We've got our Reading back! Passion, movement and a purpose in our play. What a change in a short space of time. Mr Gomes, I salut you..... I remember people saying that after Clements first win against QPR. Not really. We had passion in the QPR game, but almost nothing else...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Nottingham Forest (h) sponsored by Steve Stone

Slightly puzzled by the BBC report... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46766459 ...which talks about us "defending in numbers" and only looking better once Forest were down to 10 men. At no stage in the game did Forest ever have a spell of pressure and look on top. I wouldn't say it wa...

Re: RUMOUR - Lewis baker

Whatever the reason, my point was you can't just push players out wide and expect them to play like traditional wingers. Players don't (in general) have that skill set any more.

Re: RUMOUR - Lewis baker

So it points towards getting in players with clever movement and the ability to carve up opponents. Rather than using classic wing play of stretching the play, beating your man and putting a ball into the box. Barrow can beat players using pace but thats about it. These days they are incredibly few...

Re: BFTG United (A)

I think the problem with VAR is that there's a ref involved still making decisions. So now you've got two people looking at the same thing with slightly different opinions. And on top of that they both know the same thing will be watched on TV, in slow mo where everything looks worse, and by people...

Re: Clear out started

Whilst Stam's appointment nearly brought us Premier League football again, he's brought out the most divided fanbase in a long long time, I'd like to see average home attendances between 2015/16 and 2016/17 because even though we went from 17/18/19th to 3rd, I wouldn't be surprised to see attendanc...

Re: JOSE GOMES' BARMY ARMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loader? Really? I've seen enough of him quite frankly to see he needs to be shipped out on loan and nowhere near our first team. That one on one decision yesterday to take the extra touch and try and round the keeper and making a real mess of that chance summed up where he is at the minute. Based o...
