With Reading trying to secure Nicky Shorey's long term future expect bids by clubs such as Newcastle, Everton and Aston Villa for the England left back in order to open more options up to him. Reading midfielder James Harper has emerged as a potential signing for Aston Villa, following his good fir...

I find it amazing that with all the mathematical debating going on, and given the (near-successful) divertion of the thread onto something interesting, that nobody has yet asked the question "how many beans make five?" ...and I'm sure it could be argued that the answer would be different ...

The Colonel
RobRoyale  Bit of a no brainer really... Which one played for England!!! ?

Will you also be voting for Johnny Holt and Herbert Smith?

Were they left backs ? If they were that's one hell of a coincidence that the England call-ups have all been from one position.

Re: Best RFC left back of all time?

Ray Reeves Don't know anything about him and google produced no answers. Ask Alan Partridge, he made the nomination! Ray Reeves played in the late 50's early sixties and ended up working for the Co-op dairy for a while - with my Grandad as it happens. Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing about ...

Just a few more... Chalky White's diving header in the last minute from the edge of the box against Bristol Rovers in a 3-2 win at Elm Park. Jerry Williams dipping volley against Chesterfield in a 4-2 win back in 1985, during the record breaking start. Dean Horrix (RIP) over the head/shoulder from ...

Martin Hicks away at Palace in about 86 or 87(?). We won three 3-1. Colin Bailie got sent off. Whenever Hicks normally connected with the ball it came down with snow on! On this occasion though he connected sweetly from 35 yards out and it sailed into the top corner. Also, Hickseys 30 yard free kic...

Re: Best Reading goal?

Now that's a tough question? Dylan Kerr's belter with the outside of his left foot was a great goal and favourite here. The South Bank went wild when that went in and I remember falling forward 15 or so rows and not finding any of my lot until we got back to the pub after the game. Lee Nogan's well...

Just noticed on this site that we will be getting £5.8m for Hunty, but then get Nugent for £4m.

I don't recall Jerry Williams ever playing at right-back. I might be wrong. Neither do I, but Cripple Creek claims that he did. For what it's worth, Michael Gilkes did play at right back too and he was pretty good at it, but nobody has nominated him purely because everybody thinks of him as a right...

Dave Bacuzzi
Bobby Lenarduzzi

(In fact anyone else with a Z in his name  )

Gary Peters was part of the run without conceding so must be a major contender.

Not really a paper, but: http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8742_2162653,00.html Only sentiment can spare Shorey a proper critique. As a Reading player, he was competent. Judged as an England player, or at least on the basis of what it is reasonable to expect from an England player, Shorey wa...

I've been thinking about whether the likes of Trevor Senior, Jimmy Quinn and Adrian Williams should even be nominated. This is a specialised position and the emergency keepers have only played a few minutes in their careers. So I'm afraid, I think the emergency keepers will have to be disqualified....
