Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

McNair could be a good signing. Squads need experience. We used to sign the right sort of experienced players like Harte, Salako and Roberts who still had the hunger. More recently we've got such signings wrong, apart from Morisson who was probably fuelled by proving Brum wrong. Does McNair have the...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

Yes we just need Bowen to deny it and we know we’re on the home straight :) I did hear yesterday (not via X) that Couhig was at the training ground meeting the staff and players. Obvs doesn’t mean it’s a done deal but hopeful signs Presumably Selles and the players will stay now, and we'd still hav...

Re: England v Netherlands

And it’s no surprise that RR is laying into him regardless of results. Well indeed. I just don't enjoy turgid football. If we win the thing playing this garbage stuff - great. I'll be happy enough to have witnessed that mark in history, but can't say I'd see it as much of a cause for celebration. T...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

Whilst I take your point for the 4,654,564,622nd time - Olise would never, ever, ever have played for Reading FC if we didn't agree to the contract and the relevant clauses. So we made 8m (soon to potentially be about 12m) for a player who would otherwise have been shifted off to another club if we...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

It comes back to ambition though. L1 academy products are worth less than those with Championship experience, and would Olise have joined us in L1? I'm not convinced the academy pays for itself at this level, we probably need to be in the Championship for that to be an effective strategy. Will the C...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

When you consider what he's done at Wycombe, I for one would be delighted if it's Couhig who seals the deal. Just hope he can get it done in days, not months. If he's not Dai, I'm happy. But we're not Wycombe; if it's true that he was behind the decision for the women he'll immediately be on the ba...

Re: Olise

Can’t get too excited about this and the possibility of a nice injection of cash as it’s so uncertain what it may or may not be, or what the money would be used on There’s a slight chance it has been affecting the sale of the club I guess so pleased it should be all over from pov The club is now wo...

Re: Olise

Guesswork, but I'd bet on a substantial amount up front < 50%, a load of guaranteed instalments over several years and achievable add ons for things like appearances, trophies won and international appearances (many of which I expect to happen given it's Bayern).

Re: England v Switzerland

+1 England fans are never happy… Also not forgetting - Switzerland are a much better side that your Slovakias and your Slovenias and your Serbias and your Denmarks We were better for sure. To be fair the people who are saying we were bad don't carry much weight. It's a bitter Welshman who doesn't k...

2 SFs, 1 final, 1 QF. Southgate objectively has a good record, however poor we look.

Re: England v Switzerland

The rumoured formation switch intuitively seems to fit the team much better; more width and balance. Biggest sacrifice is Saka at LWB, but his performances at RW mean he can't really complain at being sacrificed to help the balance of the team. I suspect Bellingham and Foden will both start as attac...

Re: The general Euro2024 chit chat thread

Before the tournament they all said France, England and Portugal. All playing poorly. Ronaldo and Pepe are holding Portugal back. Conceicao off the bench looked threatening - perhaps he's playing their Cole Palmer role.

Re: The general Euro2024 chit chat thread

That was a dire game between 2 teams capable or much better. It seems a lot of teams are stinking out the tournament and hoping for a gritty win (including England, obviously). Most, if not all, will regret it. At best, 1 dire team can win. The rest will have no goodwill in the bank when they lose, ...

Re: Reading FC Womens World

I'm disappointed in Fran Kirby not speaking up for her home town - she has the profile to get this higher up the news agenda and we have seen that Dai and Pang don't like to make the news. Also Earps who really developed with us. I don't expect them to become full on campaigners, but they could at l...

Re: Generic England Euro '24 Thread

If you look at past tournaments, some terrible teams have won. Portugal in 2016 were dogshit. And in club football, Real Madrid win the Champions League most seasons despite playing like shit throughout. Bellingham has clearly learned from them to only turn up in injury time.

Re: England v Slovakia

Not enjoying the defiant language from the team after getting out of jail against Slovakia. If we win the tournament then fine, the critics can eat their words. But there's a lot of work still to be done, and any big talk is going to look very stupid if we don't up our game against a Switzerland sid...

Re: The general Euro2024 chit chat thread

Dirk Gently Friday's game v Germany should be a cracker.

(but probably won't.)

Feels harsh it's so early and one of them will be going home (well, not Germany if they lose but you know what I mean  )

They've been the 2 best teams so far so it should be a SF at least.

Re: England v Slovakia

Got to say, ref today was shocking. Gave out cards like confetti for nothing tackles early on, then bottled several decisions that warranted a 2nd yellow. Can totally see why that Turkish club owner assaulted him.

Re: England v Slovakia

How high do we rate Slovakia? No big players, but well drilled, clear gameplan that plays to the strength of their players. One of their journos on 5 Live said a win today would be their greatest footballing moment, and they must be heartbroken. Switzerland are similar in that they're a team maximis...
