Re: BFTG Bournemouth - sponsored by no midfield

With Adkins, he changes the formation three or four times even within a game. No wonder the players lack confidence - they don't know what they need to do from one half to the next. Do you think he's doing things differently now to when he was at Scunthorpe and Southampton? There seems to be a myth...

Re: BFTG Bournemouth - sponsored by no midfield

Really poor - and Guthrie was at the heart of it all. Enough said. I expect to be shot down in flames, but I think Guthrie is the problem with the team. Plays too deep, plays his team mates into problem positions, can't tackle but worst of all, kills all attacking momentum by constantly going sidew...

Re: Brian: The right decision?

Not sticking with Guthrie and playing Jay Tabb instead was McDermott's biggest mistake last season IMHO. I'm not sure it would have made a big difference to our final position, and it wasn't a cause to fire him, but I do accept the criticism. I don't know. Tabb did well in those games, arguably bet...

Re: FAO The Optimists

If last seasons team wasn't good enough, why is this one supposed to be walking the league? Last season we were playing (bravely) against Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal et al. This season we are playing (badly) against the likes of Peterborough, Sheff Weds, Yeovil, Millwall... We've looked worse against t...

Re: The Adkins Sack/Resignation Countdown Thread

any team that comes down from the prem will regress. they have to. you just cant maintain squad quality moving from the prem to the champ I actually think we did maintain squad quality. (Given that Kebe and Mariappa had the hump, they were no loss in practice.) The trouble was that that squad quali...

Re: The Adkins Sack/Resignation Countdown Thread

You are wrong, he was sold to Ipswich that summer. He was injury-prone, but it did not put us off our stride. I remember long periods without Forster but no big deal was made of it. Good management should ensure that we always have replacements to come in, including at left back. And centre back, c...

Re: The Adkins Sack/Resignation Countdown Thread

Yeah, he wasn't match fit because of said injury. He was beginning to start games just before he got injured against Leeds, but that was a heavily bruised foot, not a pre-existing muscle injury. I do not see how a bruised foot or a minor muscle injury could have this effect on Williams, who now has...

Re: The Adkins Sack/Resignation Countdown Thread

05/06 - Sonko and Ingimarsson played just about every game. Sidwell and Harper likewise unmoved, and if on the rare occasion they were injured Brynjar was always able to step in. Murty and Shorey were almost ever-presents, Marcus was injury-free, Little and Convey were available for the whole seaso...

Re: The Adkins Sack/Resignation Countdown Thread

Williams has little in his history to suggest injury problems. Williams was injured towards the end of last season. Wonder why little Reading managed to get a Bundesliga player to transfer to us. Fortunately, we did not fall for Sissoko. 1 injury =/= degenerative profile. Williams got injured origi...

Re: The Adkins Sack/Resignation Countdown Thread

Of course, but I don't think he's done badly considering. It's hard to build a cohesive team when key players are constantly getting injured. Its hard to build fluidity when 2/3 enforced changes have to be made every game. Its hard for a manager to build a team in his own image when his 3 main summ...

Re: FAO The Optimists

We play sh i t. No passion or penetration from open play. It's boring. The captain (this week), the manager, and the owner are all c u nts. With xmas round the corner I am going to enjoy spending my money on cocktails, mistletoe, and motel rooms - rather than freezing my arse off to watch this sh i...

Re: FAO The Optimists

this is probably the easiest championship in years & despite that, we're right off the pace. I wouldnt say that. Dare I say it, this is one of the toughest. Look at the teams in there. QPR - Full of ex-Premier League Players; Wigan - A mix of Premier League players and a striker who got Norwich...

Re: The Adkins Sack/Resignation Countdown Thread

It should be noted how we haven't had much luck with injuries. We've signed the best full back in the league, but he's only been fit 50% of the time and is out for a while, we've paid a fair chunk of money for an international midfielder who wasn't close to being match fit at the start of the seaso...

Re: FAO The Optimists

Maybe. The problem here is that Nigel has never been accepted by many on here, the manager is here to get us where we want to be, we all have the same aim but it takes time and some aren't prepared to give him time, no matter what he does. I wasn't a lover of Adkins, as he came from the team I disl...

Re: Blackburn (A) Thread sponsored by Jason Roberts' dodgy h

Awful again. OK so work in progress we are this season but I would expect to see gradual improvement as the season goes on not this continual drabness and nothingness Is there an agreement with Southampton that they'll get more money if we actually play Sharp for longer than 5 minutes or something ...

Re: Blackburn (A) Thread sponsored by Jason Roberts' dodgy h

Bodkins needs to sit down, work out who we've got left from the championship team and stick them in. Which means MacAnuff. Now that he has stumbled on a centre back pairing of Gorkss and Pearce, it might occur to him why we did not gain promotion by accident. And the sooner Ledge gets fit the better.

Re: Adkins hits out

Not sure we should revere Coppell too much over this one, as I am pretty certain he scouted Akpan to Brian. On the other hand, I think Akpan is very promising, so I am sorry to see Reading fans jumping to the conclusion that he is no good before he has had a run in the side (under Bodgkins, anyway).
