Re: The 2017/18 season preview/expectation and build up thread

windermereROYAL Steven Quinn doesn`t seem to be featuring either. surely he can`t still be injured can he?

He's no spring chicken and he's broken down in recovery from a major injury before. If he plays less than another 10 games in the Championship in his career let alone for us it wouldn't be a surprise.

Kelly is really crucial to the way we play IMO. He moves the ball quickly, effectively and with purpose.

Good to see Academy players involved and seemingly performing well.

Re: Rumour - Naki wells

The opportunity to get played, promoted and retained in first team plans rather than sidelined.

Whatever happens, there is no way we should be paying that sort of ludicrous wage for anyone in the Championship, let alone someone of Wells quality. We aren't QPR FFS.

Re: Rumour - Naki wells

The headline might read £10m but I would have thought the structure of the deal would be something like this. 4yr contract @ 50k a week £2,400,000 wages Agents and fees around £1,000,000 (10% of the total package) Add ons for goals scored and promotion £1,000,000 Players fee £5,600,000 The total de...

LightwaterRoyal
double d we are going to get mullered with that abysmal line up

This a joke? That's our first XI for the season with the exception of Beerens and Kelly or a new signing.
Anyone better is injured.

And McShane, and Kermorgant.

Re: Summer Ins and Outs

We release lots of academy players every year. Surely it is heartening that so many are continuing as professionals rather than dropping out entirely? We really haven't lost many first teamers at all. Williams and Al-Habsi basically, one of whom we've directly replaced. We've trimmed the squad and i...

Re: Desperate for a striker poll

The right price obviously depends on the player and circumsatances. Not worth paying £5m for Oliviera if someone only a little less good is available for free, let alone £9m+

I don't think we should go higher than £6m for anyone we could realistically target though.

Re: Transfer fees out of control

Hmmm, lacking data. How much higher is the English league. What about the second tiers. What's the comparative minutes on pitch for native and foreign players. The PL and La Liga could both have 40% foreign players, but if the 60% in Spain get 70% of the pitch time whilst the 60% in England get 40% ...

Re: Rumour - Naki wells

Is 10 million today any more insane than 400kwas for Steve Moran all those years ago ? it was £250K but I get your point. I used to will Moran to do well every game but he was very average and a waste of money. I doubt that the average championship uncome has risen by the same proprotion as transfe...

£5m and maybe.

No second tier striker should move to a second tier club for more than £6m. It's insane.

Re: The 2017/18 season preview/expectation and build up thread

Without Williams our depth is definitely hurt and I'd like to see us improve on him. But for all his quality he always seemed the wrong cog in midfield to me. With Kelly, Evans, Berg and Swift to choose from the first choice looks strong. Plus Clement, Barrett and co. Injuries will really hurt us th...

If we could get him for about 2/3rds what they paid he'd be about normal level of overpriced and maybe worth it. But I can't see us spending £8m or Villa acceptingn a £4m loss.

Re: Transfer fees out of control

As CR said, look at all our comparative big signings: Lita, Halford, Fae, Bikey, Mills, Vydra, Seol, etc etc etc. How many of them have been better than Ok? It's oxf*rd all. All our most impactful signings have been comparatively cheap or home grown. Are you seriously suggesting Lita was not better...

Re: CONFIMRED - Lewis Grabban

He looked to me like a player with talent who has lost their passion to achieve. Like someone who is comfortable and coasting having secured a career at very decent wages.

I'm not saying he didn't try, just that there didnt seem to be a determination to win his battles and makes his game count.

Re: Transfer fees out of control

I'm not concerned about not spending tonnes. We've consistently proved that you don't need to spend a lot (at least in transfer fees) to be successful. It's about recruiting the right sort of player and it's about the team. Even with the undoubted quality that Wolves have signed I'd be very surpris...

I just don't see how he is any better than Samuel looking at his stats. Has anyone seen him play at all and could comment? Is he younger than Samuel, is he less injury prone than Samuel? Stam's seen plenty of Samuel, better try someone who might be better than stick with someone you don't think is ...

Re: The idiots of Twitter thread

I genuinely don't understand why anyone would use twitter to try to get breaking football news. It's just full of tragic attention seeking bullshit merchants peddling any old nonsense. Yeah there's some genuine scoops, but is it really worth all the effort to sort the wheat from the endless chaff to...
