Re: Champions League Thread 2014/2015

Interesting how such a talented player like Berbatov suffered such criticism here for being idle and uninterested yet he has superb skills. Is it just the media or British football in general that has a misguided perception that unless you run yourself into the ground all game you must be a lazy ine...

Here's some offenders (2nd pic) - not sure whether the local press made them wear it mind you

Re: Bradford away- biggest game in years...

Fck me, it even says 7 of those scarves sold  One of the things I was most looking forward to going to Bradford for was to enjoy something a bit more authentic before having to suffer the indignity of a trip to the modern Wembley (should we make it). It's bad enough the stadium hasn't bedded ...

Re: When was the last Football Special?

Some good and interesting stuff on here, enjoying the stories from those who went on the authentic 'football specials'. Presumably there would have had to have been a fair few takers paying up front to actually run these specials - Blyth/Sunderland to Reading and back for instance must have been fai...

Re: FA Cup 2014/15

Have to say these QF's are extremely well balanced. It would be a bit of a surprise if Blackburn turned the scousers over, apart from that the other three games could easily go either way.
I reckon the Semi-Finalists:

Reading
WBA
Liverpool
Arsenal

Re: Championship is horrible football

Blackpool 4-4 Forest
Bolton 3-4 Watford
Both good games last Sat, Rotherham 3-3 Derby last night.

Doesn't sound like negative tactics were the winner in those games. Plus the whole league is at least competitive with reasonably even squads. It's a 46 game slog so some of it is bound to be a bit crap.

West Ham out - good! They had a real chance this season and got their comeuppance. Bradford knocking out Sunderland so the season of shocks continues..... Lol at those West Ham fans having a pop at Sullivan after the game at West Brom..........they'd probably built themselves up so much because the...

Re: Who will we draw away in the FA Cup QF

re: Villa v WBA - Birmingham City v WBA was at 3pm on the Saturday when they recently played in the cup so not necessarily a security issue time. Agree with it being about how the broadcasters decide to share it out between them. From my m8s who support WBA - there's a much bigger rivalry with Vill...

Jason Roberts is something like I imagine an American sports pundit to be i.e. talking absolute shite just to make sure you comply with your 3000 words a minute media contract.

Quite like Michael Owen as a pundit, seems insightful beyond the obvious.

Re: Who will we draw away in the FA Cup QF

The cynic would suggest that Liverpool/Arsenal/Man Utd will all be split up and get home draws - the FA trying to regain some prestige for the competition which mostly means rows of empty seats and second string teams these days, even some Champ teams bin it off. We're due a home draw - anyone outsi...

Re: What's the best atmosphere you've ever experienced.....

Quite timely given tomorrows game but I'll give a shout to Derby away in '85 at the Baseball Ground. It felt like a taste of the big time - just over 16,000 for a 3rd division game at a proper old atmospheric stadium, 2 sides going for promotion and we stood strong to earn a 1-1 draw. Palace away in...

Yeah, 'greed with some of the others - After Man Utd & Liverpool I could well imagine Leeds to have one of the biggest out-of-towners fan bases. Leeds in itself isn't a football orientated city like many others are, still, an astoundingly good away support while a very patchy home support gives ...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Bayern Munich really are the scourge of German football - the Bundesliga, for all the plaudits it receives, is wholly uncompetitive with the imbalance of resources that Bayern enjoy and must be a total bore for everyone else.

Re: Wolves away

Think most of the pubs around the ground are shut these days. A lot of the pubs there are also frequented by Wolves' usual ignorant pikey fans - away fans are just a minor irritant to their supreme existence most times I've visited. There is one good old fashioned atmospheric type pub behind the sta...

Re: The generic transfer thread

Delle Alli to Spurs was quite an eye catching transfer, £5m for an 18 year old from MK Dons. True enough, pretty much most reports from MK Dons games I've heard this season have included "the highly rated Alli etc". Didn't know he was quite as highly rated mind you - big chunk of transfer ...

Re: DANNY GUTHRIE

He looked like the only player capable of galvanising the team at the start of last season - almost pivotal in the games I saw in that period. Wages are too high for his ability mind you - then again, which player's aren't? He's certainly not worse than any other players in his position at this leve...
