Re: Take away the pens and free kicks....

We're missing Gylfi's link up play and threat in and around the box in open play, but Harte has admirably replaced his set piece delivery. Oh, I SEEeeeee.... Why are we scoring more goals then? With Gylfi, I think we'd be doing just as well right now, probably better. Although without Khiz and to a...

36 Shots in 14 games - Bothroyd 14 Shots in 08 games - Chopra 13 shots in 06 games - Bellamy 63 shots in 28 games - Total 21 shots in 09 games - Average, this for a side which is top of the league and top scorers, scoring for fun Note how the best players get about 2+ chances per game on average. Re: Harte Signs

It's because he was better than this league, took freekicks and penalties, needed very little space to shoot accurately from range and could easily create that space himself. He could either drifted off the wing into the middle to find space or when he sat in the "hole", find it by beatin...

Re: Harte Signs

What I understand is you lot SQUIRMING. If Shane or whoever scores goals, then it's "But what about his other contributions?" If they work their socks off it,s "But he's there to score goals." If (for example) Shane scores loads of goals for few minutes, it's because it's easy to...

Re: Long - Time to go.

Snowball, what was the old Barnsley/Rodgers thing again? Is that a genuine question? Aye. Can't be arsed to trawl back through 30+ pages to find it. Me neither. Dellor was talking up subjective opinions and he cited last season's game at Barnsley. We were SLAUGHTERED for 25 minutes or so but Barnsl...

Re: Harte Signs

Also deadliness is pretty irrelevant anyway when comparing players in different positions and different roles. Take a striker, alot of their chances are inside the penalty area where accuracy should be higher. A player like Gylfi who takes pot shots from outside the area when no other options are a...

Re: Harte Signs

Snowball please remove the penalties from those stats. "Deadliness" as you call it is distorted when a free shot from 12 yards is included. Inclined to agree, and it shouldn't be too hard for the majority either I wouldn't have thought (possibly quite time consuming). Goals scored as pens...

Re: Harte Signs

Snowball please remove the penalties from those stats. "Deadliness" as you call it is distorted when a free shot from 12 yards is included. Gylfi's Fan Club won't be very pleased, will it? How about Doyle's pens? How about pens by others? And BTW, if you want to remove the pens from the s...

Re: Harte Signs

What are all the columns? Is there anything which shows starts and sub appearances there, as I think it would be interesting to see a comparison of how frequently a player is in a position to score as well as what his conversion rate is like. Are penalties included as goals & chances? All Shots...

Re: Harte Signs

These are the "Deadliness" Stats, compiled from the RFC OS By "career" I mean Reading, all seasons. Kitson scores a goal every 3.9 chances Long is second best, a goal every 4.7 chances, better than Doyle This is CONVERTING CHANCES, Nothing to do with Goals per game 244 143 094 7 ...

Re: Harte Signs

Where do you get the hit woodwork stats? The only thing that confuses me about those stats is how Gylfi managed to amass 144 shots in such a short space of time, or at least relative to Long, who has been in and around the first team for nearly three times as long. It can't have been from attacking...

Re: Harte Signs

[ Just like someone decent started the "We love you, Feds" after the Forest game Did I say I would have hated him? Booed him? Wanted him sold? Well did I? No I just said I wouldn't cheering him off the pitch as a hero. Try reading what people write before you stick your foot in your mouth...

Re: Harte Signs

Now HERE is a nice statistic. Harte is really, seriously DEADLY as a marksman. I'd suggest there's a qualitative side to this in that Harte will have taken relatively fewer shots at goal from open play to Gylfi. It's difficult to compare shooting accuracy/goals per shots of an attacking midfielder,...

Re: Harte Signs

Perhaps human inference fault can be suggested to have lead to you over-rating the performances of Shane Long this season. As evidence I suggest your countless posts highlighting or underlining or bolding every time Shane Long did something even remotely attacking. "rz" you clearly haven'...

Re: Harte Signs

I think he would be chaired off the pitch as a hero and we'd say, "It's a cruel game." Not by me he wouldn't. That one mistake would have undone all the good he did. That just describes YOU. Me, I would cheer him to the roof-tops (after I'd checkedhisstas, of course) Just like someone dec...

Re: Long - Time to go.

Are you sure he's only scored 2 goals this season? For Reading, yes. I don't care that he has scored for Ireland. Different team mates, different style of play. Not relevant to his performances for Reading. It's very relevant two two things 1. His true ability. 2. Whether he can score goals in open...
