Re: MATCHWATCH : Sheffield Wednesday (h) sponsored by new season optimism

I remember that feeling of utter deflation after the Derby home game last season. Looking forward to experiencing more of the same come 4.45pm on Saturday. Although, that was more due to the result, rather than how we played. It was all going very well until the GK error. Sadly it's not hard to ima...

Re: Where will we finish?

By the way, if we stay up, blood in youngsters and extend Gomes' stay, I'd really back us to push on for 20/21. This is a big season; survive this and medium term looks good.

Re: Where will we finish?

A couple of interesting noises from club. Howe says we need another striker to help us reach 80 goals and push for top 6. Sorry - no chance. Gomes says owners want promotion. If Gomes gets us playing good football, guides us to 18th or so and then gets sacked, they will have a fanbase mutiny to mana...

Where will we finish?

Pre-season is over, there may be 1 or 2 more signings but the squad is basically set. Time to predict where we finish. I'm actually feeling more optimistic. We have a good backline and some young exciting attacking players. However, this is offset by GK worries and lack of midfield depth. Considerin...

Re: Are we still heading for a 9pt deduction?

I've enjoyed the return of sense to the Championship transfer market. Brentford have done some savvy deals off the back of sales, but there are no £10m signings by anyone. Is FFP finally starting to have an impact?

Re: SPECULATION - Aaron Tshibola

What I would say is he's a technical player who would fit Gomes' style, and he's athletic too. Like you say, I didn't follow at Kilmarnock, but his spells at Forest and MK were disappointing

Re: Are we still heading for a 9pt deduction?

How much did the sales of Bacuna and Ilori mitigate last season? It seems like we've been going all out to control things since January which will hopefully keep our 18/19 loss to £10m or so. Which gives us £5-6m to play with in 19/20 which could be tough given the lack of sales. I hope Casumo gave ...

Re: SPECULATION - Aaron Tshibola

I'm happy to forgive his stupid decision to jump at first opportunity. But have several concerns. Firstly attitude. Why did he leave when every man and his dog knew he wouldn't play for Villa? Why did he not flourish on loans when he had the talent? Suggests he has been thinking far too highly of hi...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Sheffield Wednesday (h) sponsored by new season optimism

Please please please get a better option than Swift in for that role. I agree with everyone that he's the best available, but that says more than the squad about him. I'd push him further forward. We also need to show caution and care with Olise, as Everton did with Rooney back in the day. He's clea...

Re: Pre season tour

I know you can't read into pre-season much, but last year's friendlies gave a real sense of foreboding which proved to be well founded. These performances are cause for optimism.

Re: Rival Watch

paultheroyal Fulham will absolutely walk the league next season - and will be a threat to our 106.

I haven't been following their business closely, but they need to clear out the disastrous signings they made last summer.

Re: Rumour: Leo Bonatini

loan fees, or big wages. rumours are that even with the loans we have had, their parent clubs are again paying the majority, if not all I think that would be the case with Bonatini too. There are a lot of out of favour strikers in the Premier League/at top Championship sides worth going for though,...

Re: Rival Watch

My other gripe is you can avoid consequences of FFP breaches if you go up. The authorities should have the power to relegate you back if you won promotion by cheating. We're suffering to meet FFP right now; teams who don't show the rules the same respect need far stronger punishments. yeah its an i...

Re: Rival Watch

I understand fully the reasoning behind parachute payments. They allow promoted teams to make a decent fist of premier league survival with a safety net against financial ruin if they go down. However, in the past 5 years or so it seems like relegated sides have been able to pay enormous transfer fe...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Hull City (a) sponsored by Nigel Adkins

Have they kept hold of their front 3? They're class and tore us apart in the second half at theirs last season. But I didn't envisage them keeping them together; Bowen in particular is clearly cut out to play at a higher level.

Re: The 4 needed to complete the team

Increasingly, I'm coming to the view 2 more may be enough. A holding midfielder alongside Rino and a striker. If we can get in Ejaria too then great, but it looks like we're missing out. Holsgrove, East, Olise, Barrett, Howe, McIntyre, and Loader all look ready to make an impact this year and so if ...

Re: Rumour: Leo Bonatini

This would be a fantastic signing. Proven at this level, will suit Gomes' style. I won't get carried away off the back of a Tweet, but yes please. Yeah, 12 goals in the championship definitely equals a proven striker at this level Don’t think he’s scored a goal since Dec 2017, not sure he’s what we...

Re: Any more out the door?

Baldock looks at least semi integrated back with the squad. Whether that’s because Gomes rates him enough or just little chance of offloading I don’t know You'd be stupid not to. Best outcome for the club would be to shift him and get his wages off the books, but if it's not possible he can do a jo...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Apparently WBA have agreed a fee with Brentford for Sawyers. Which I assume will be used to fund Ejaria. How important is this position? Do we need alternatives? Olise, Barrett and Holsgrove are all attacking midfielders. Loader can play there. Far more important is a deeper midfielder, who can allo...
