Re: Where were YOU when we were sh!t?

First game was 1967 at home to Swansea Town, we won 2-0. Started going to every home game in 74/75. First away game was at Exeter that season, we won 2-0. First ST was 75/76, promotion year. I was at Cambridge when we drew 2-2 to clinch promotion. Stopped being a STH late 70s as work took me away fr...

Re: How to creat a better atmosphere at the mad stad

A "new tradition"? An oxymoron, if ever I heard one.

And I've never seen polish celebrate, apart from when Mr Sheen used to appear on the TV and get a tad carried away. Look forward to seeing this thread develop...

Re: Favourite "old skool" Reading chant

Can't believe no-one's mentioned, "You're so loud you sound like Aldershot." how many times did you go to aldershot? Many times, although I'm not sure what that has to do with it. It was a chant used by Reading in the late 70s, early 80s. "You're so shit it's unbelievable" was u...

Re: New Sponsorship Deal.

Wife and I took a trolley each through the same checkout, paying separately. Check-out girl seemed slightly surprised, "Not seen one of these before," to the wife. 5 minutes later I produced mine. Not too many Reading supporters in Sussex, of course. £30 off just about cancelled the extra ...

Re: Robin Friday

I remember his home debut against Exeter, during the 3-day week. Buses were on strike so I had to walk to Elm Park in the heaving rain. It was immediately obvious that we had a new hero. I was there for "that" goal with my Dad. I remember him (my Dad) saying, "Look at the ref!" a...

Re: Have you ever been attacked at a game?

Also, my boss, a Birstol Rovers fan, says that they always have trouble with Baggies fans. Something to do with Rovers sending them down in the early 90's. Ah yes, I was at that game at Twerton Park. West Brom needed a result to stay up, and loads of them had come dressed in togas. Up until kick-of...

Re: Your Top 3 RFC Games Seen, EVER

Top 3...no order... Reading 5 Tranmere 0 (THE Robin Friday goal game) 1976-ish Reading 4 Plymouth 3 (as already mentioned) Newport 0 Reading 2 (the 13th league win on the spin in 1985) Great memories. Thanks for cheering up the board !! I'm pretty sure that was the 12th. Lincoln away was 13th. Mine...

Re: why do the "sun" call southampton...

The Sun says: ONCE again we are refusing to name a once-proud South Coast club in this match report from last night. This is solely down to the actions of club chief Nicola Clotese, a man who has decided to ban national and local newspapers from taking photographs of the game. We apologise unreserve...

Re: Penalty miss is still haunting Archie

The day after the Bolton game, I got a phone call from my then boss (a Huddersfield fan - they had been promoted the day before our play-off). I thought he'd rung to gloat / sympathise. Turned out that the wife of one of our colleagues had died in childbirth over the weekend. Suddenly the footie see...

Re: Sunday League Football - Behaviour of parents

I've just completed my 3rd season of watching my 11yo play for our village team. They play in the Mid-Sussex league which comprises teams from the Burgess Hill area. On the whole, the parents have been excellent - I can only recall one occasion where anything remotely untoward has happened, and that...

Re: Back from the game....... I really hate geordies

Look at the Stats RFC 0-Toon 2 Possesion 49-51 I looked at the stats at half-time, and it showed 66:34 possession in Reading's favour. Not sure how Newcastle turned it around to 49:51, that means they must have had 32:68 after HT. Certainly didn't seem like it. Perhaps they held the ball while Gunn...

Re: Will You Be Buying/Renewing A Season Ticket Next Season?

Had my first ST in 1975. Have had one whenever I've lived within reasonable travelling distance. My only decision is whether to get one each for my boys. They have shared this season, and younger (8 years old) son has thoroughly enjoyed his share of games.

Re: 8pm Midweek Kick-offs. WHY?

The Simod Cup semi against Coventry was supposed to be an 8pm ko, but was delayed until 8.15. The 90 minutes finished at around 10, extra time took it to around 10.35, and the penalties meant it finished just before 11. My point being that we did have 8pm starts at EP. And long may they continue at ...
