Re: GOMES OUT!

Suspect the management have set a performance target for example - 1st quarter - get a point per game. Same run rate as last season, use the time to bed in the new players 2nd quarter - get point and half per game. Show improvement as team gels 3rd quarter - get point and half per game. Show consoli...

Re: BFTG - Charlton

First game of the season for me First half - very impressed - held the 3/5/2 shape well, high energy and confidence, thought we were the better side but Charlton contained us where in mattered in the box. Clearly 9 of 11 players looked very good. We seemed to get more frustrated at things not happen...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

I know we have signed (all of a sudden) some good quality players for shed loads of £££ and the prospects for the season look good, however is any one else a little miffed as I am, about the sudden about U turn ? It seemed that finally the stars were aligned with FFP, Gomes encouraging youth and How...

Re: Financial Fair Play

Absolutely fascinating read - for non accountants a bit tricky but all makes sense. Basically Gourlay and BT (not Stam so much - his job is to ask, their's to say no) screwed us big time - surprised they didn't sack them earlier. What stands out for me is 59 players and 99 football management and co...

Re: BFTG - Swansea

Blackburn’s fortunes are probably a good proxy for our own. Club badly run for several seasons, dwindling crowds, poor investment in players and a Cat 1 academy. When they were relegated the Venkys had a decision to make - withdraw all financial support, write off all the money they had invested an...

Re: Jose’s task starts here

Fred, yeah, the 'Reading Way' was something that came up a lot during the manager 'search'. What's your idea of 'the Reading Way'? Can/should it be exactly replicated, or would it need to be 'tweaked' at all from what it was? What level of success could consistently be achieved with it today and in...

Re: Jose’s task starts here

As a traditionalist , a bit anti the modern "money biased era" and dreaming of a return to the Reading Way I am disappointed in this management change would have preferred the guy at Wycombe or even Parky over Gomes and his mates BUT I will hope (and support) as much as we all will that th...

Re: BFTG Wigan.

agreed very big mistake losing Evans and indeed Cooper earlier - Evans had something about him that was good and would have been a good first pick IMO - young with coaching would develop further. Ever since I've seen Swift and Kelly in the same team I got the view that it would never work. When we h...

Re: The very latest in Clement In/Out Polls

IN - I think PC has got what it takes for the long term success of the club. Lets face it he is an inexperienced manager - about two seasons worth of games under his belt now with various clubs ? He is learning and with a sound coaching background could well succeed long term. I sense though he is a...

Whats the point

Championship 16 games no teams on 2 points per game or above 6 teams (25%) on 1 point or less Premier League 11 games 5 teams (25%) on 2 points per game or above 8 teams (40%) on 1 point per game or less Think we just need to get back to enjoying the football on a Saturday, entertaining end to end g...

Re: Teams to be Relegated 18-19

Last season after 10 games the bottom 7 included Brentford (and us) after 46 games swap out Brentford for Hull. So after 10 games 6 out of 7 were still there at season end. Eventually the trap door will open for us if we stay mired at this level. Luck may desert us this year. And to be clear - we ar...

Re: Clement

Company Politics - Who Hired Clement ? Answer - Gourlay. If Clement is ousted now its bye bye Gourlay - especially now BT gone - no one else to blame Would probably a be a good thing, but even more turmoil - the players are the prime culprits at the moment though - should be good enough for 13-18 fi...

Next 4 Games and meaningless Stats

Ok - 2 points from 6 games. We've been edging towards this for the few seasons now but I strongly believe we wont make it this season - surprises me as I expected / hoped for a 13th-117th finish - better balanced squad , of so so but possibly just good enough players for a "somewhere in the top...

Re: Next Season's Squad

On the original post - 9 home grown and 12 bought in - though I count Evans as almost home grown. Nice balance. Swap Kermogant for Dadi (hunger over age) and lose Gunter - he has too long been associated with failure at Reading, though a decent player and he cares - its too comfortable for him here....

Re: MATCHWATCH : Sheffield Wednesday (a) sponsored by total apathy

How on earth can the owners possibly accept this situation? There is clearly a hidden agenda here. The agenda is Chinese want to get relegated, sell the ground make loads of ££££, we relocate to a diddy little ground at Smallmead. Its taken 25 years or so to establish Reading FC one division higher ...

Re: Starting XI

I've said it before - you can allow a young and unproven manager to get it wrong some times, tactics, selections etc dealing with players, game management etc. Its a big step up. BUT BUT BUT said young manager needs to learn and adapt. If he refuses to learn or can't see other than tunnel vision the...

Re: In or Out? New poll.

In - on the basis it throws the whole club into more chaos if he goes. Season is a write off so the only reason to replace now is if WE ARE IN VERY SERIOUS DANGER OF GOING DOWN. I don't think that will happen Of much more concern is does Stam "learn and adapt" ? The best Managers/Leaders i...

Re: Gourlay out.

Chinese will let hem run out their contracts..........Gourlay Brian T Stam and rest of the backroom team will have very poor cvs if by end of 2018/19 all they have achieved is lower midtable especially with all the Hype and Cash spent. Pressure increases on them to make something of this by leaving ...

To have a decent season (around playoffs with 77 pts) you need to get points as follows - Top 6 - draw at home lose away - 5 from this group assumign a top 6 finish) Second 6 - draw at home draw away - 12 pts from this group Third 6 - win at home draw away - 24 pts from this group Bottom 6 - win at ...

Re: Board of Directors - Look away now ...

Its an interesting presentation of accurate (to a degree data). The conclusions / facts to be drawn from this 1) Fact - Historically a selling club (JM without deep pockets) and managers / DOF have implemented that strategy. Backed up by excellent scouting and a good eye for a bargain 2) Conclusion ...
