Re: World Cup Qualification - Brazil 2014

That was the best World Cup song ever. Better even than the excellent World in Motion. It deserves a Youtube link at least. Watch this, it's brilliant:

Re: World Cup Qualification - Brazil 2014

I watched England in major tournaments in 1982, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2012 (twice if you include the Olympics) and each and every time the media has hyped up England's chances and I've had friends who entirely expect England to win the whole thing. 2014...

Re: World Cup Qualification - Brazil 2014

This World Cup is going to be absolutely brilliant. Nobody expects England to win so hopefully we'll see less of that related nonsense and just enjoy watching how far they can go, whilst enjoying all the other teams in the tournament.

Re: England vs Montenegro 11/10/13

Well at least if it stays that way we're guaranteed at least a play-off spot against Iceland or whoever. Ukraine effectively have 21 points now, so still need to beat Poland to win the group.

And win this, obviously.

I love everything about this short clip of a classic Blackpool goal, and could never possibly get bored watching it:

Re: World Cup Qualification - Brazil 2014

Do-or-die for Mexico tonight against Panama!

Who wouldn't want to see Iceland get a stab at the play-offs, and beating Cyprus at home today is surely on the cards there?

And surely most of us would like to see Ecuador beat Uruguay in South America's crunch match.

All happening tonight!

Re: England vs Montenegro 11/10/13

The Guardian's Barney Ronay has posited that Montenegro are possibly the best team in the World, relative to their population, which is about 600,000.

Could that be true?

Re: England vs Montenegro 11/10/13

This should be a win for England as should next Tuesday's game against the Poles - let's face it, if England don't get through with having two home games then we don't deserve to go and will end up a massive laughing stock. I can see the Montenegro game being a draw, and I'm not much more optimisti...

Re: 2022 Qatar

If Qatar don't get the world cup then Fifa need to compensate them for all the post-bid costs, bribe or no bribe. If Qatar do get the cup, but not in Summer 2022 then the process should either reopen or the other bidding countries should be compensated. They've made a complete pig's ear of it. At a...

Re: have you played at any league/non league grounds?

I played at Preston North End's old ground at Deepdale, when they had a plastic pitch. They used to rent it out to school groups when they had away games. I also kicked a ball around once at Loakes Park, the former home of Wycombe Wanderers. Also, I'm heartened to see I'm not the only one here who e...

Re: 2022 Qatar

Surely it's time for FIFA to use this 'slave labour' controversy as a convenient way out, and call the whole Qatar thing off and re-open the English and Australian bids for 2022 (and, OK, anyone else who wants to have a go). There is precedent for this isn't there? Wasn't the 1986 World Cup original...

11.30 from paddington Players celebrating a goal by jumping in with the fans.

I used to like it when there were massive fences behind the goals and some players used to jump on and cling to them when celebrating a goal.

But then fences were never a good thing, so mixed feelings about that one really.

The early rounds of European Cup competitions. You might get some unheard of Welsh team getting a trip over to somewhere nice like Portugal or Austria, for instance. And you just feel pleased for them. Or a big club like Celtic getting sent to the arse end of Kazakhstan. Always causes a chuckle. Th...
