Re: Shane Long

shane long has been given numerous chances by coppell and has not taken any 19 League starts in 3 seasons is "numerous chances"? this is his 4th season with us now It may be "his fourth season" in your eyes... but he debut'd in December 28 2006 so it's actually just THREE season...

Re: Shane Long

I think the best thing for Long would be to look for first team football elsewhere. He's not a championship player as he simply is not good enough to command a regular role in the first team. I agree he's not a championship player. He's a premiership player You merely saying "he's not good eno...

Re: Anyone Noticed Our run-in?

Bizarre logic. I don't think its very likely that Reading will lose three in a row. Not "bizarre" at all. we lost LLL, twice last season, and LLLLLLLL once We got a PASTING at Swansea. Not the result, the way we played and were outplayed. And we lost at Cardiff... Could quickly be 3 defea...

Re: Shane Long

Neither of those actually tell you who's the better team or player though, it just shows who'd amassed more points or scored more goals over the season (the table never lies is a cliche that has some weight behind it admittedly, but it's still only a measure of performance not ability As far as I a...

Re: Shane Long

None of which makes a blind bit of difference to Long's ability to control a ball or hold off a defender. This is plain daft. Some players are LUMPS but they keep putting it in the net. Shane Long's scoring rate is respectable. For a bit-part sub it's brilliant. He should get more time either with ...

Re: Shane Long

Basically, what I'm getting at is that there is only one way to judge a player, or a team for that matter, and that is with your own eyes not a load of statistics. Disagree. What about "total points in a season"? That's a statistic. What about the league's top-scorer? That's a statistic. ...

Don't forget the 106 Point Season is a bit of a distortion How about the Premiership Only? Starts-Sub-"Games"-Goals 62-06 (63) -- 19 Goals = 1 goal every 3.16 games Kevin DOYLE 16-34 (19) -- 05 Goals = 1 goal every 4.00 games Shane LONG 32-15 (34) -- 08 Goals = 1 goal every 4.25 game Leroy...

Re: Shane Long

Leroy Lita and Shane Long have both been at Reading for the same period of time. Leory Lita has scored 32 goals for Reading. Shane Long has scored 14 goals for Reading. STUPID STATS. You could have a kid of six working through junior ranks and then the academy, the reserves and say "been with ...

Re: Shane Long

I think he has the potential to be a very good player indeed. AS GOOD AS DOYLE If you look at what he manages with a lot less time on the pitch, if you look at actual facts, genuine statistics, and then remember he has three years of improvement, to catch Kevin as he is now, he is going to be as goo...

Re: Shane Long

Where do people get the idea that Shane has been given "loads of chances? Not this year How about last season? In 2007-8, he played a total of 673 minutes (7.5 games) and yet he managed 3 goals and 3 assists That's 20% of the time had he played every game for 90 minutes so x 5 that's 15 goals a...

Re: Shane Long

This has to be a wind up post from one of the players. Nope. I think Shane will be a very good player and he's under-rated. I also think this forum is packed with knee-jerkers and 85% don't understand football. I think Shane probably lacks confidence because he doesn't get enough games, but our top...

Re: Shane Long

oh and LOL that when he was subbed after 68 mins against Palace were 3-2 up!!!! He MUST be good then.

Don't be so DUMB

He played for 68 minutes, we were winning 3-2 when he came off.

The point is, he started, played and the side were doing enough to win.

Shane Long

A few of the more sensible posters on this list have pointed out that some members just decide to dislike certain players, even when the stats say otherwise. Steve Hunt & Kebe, for example, either have scored or made 60% of our league goals But it seems that almost everyone on this list has a do...

Re: STEPHEN HUNT - IS HIS TIME UP?

I do find some of the commentary on this list, shall we be kind and say, "misinformed"? The CLUB statistics Have Hunt down as 18 assists and 6 goals, Kebe 8 assists and 1 goal 33 assists or goals from 55 goals.... a full 60% of all our league goals? Never mind what you THINK, look at the s...

Re: Last rumours- George Boyd and David Nugent

Can't see us getting Nugent, but he was awesome before he went to Pompey

Heard he's a bad trainer or some attitude problem?

But why do we only compare him to Doyle?

Wouldn't Nugent-Doyle work with Noel as sub? (just one example)

"but his body-language suggests he's fallen out with SC" Another totally unfounded statement, unless you are a body language expert, which I very much doubt. Bad Luck, Sunshine. I AM well-trained in body-language. I have three degrees, two in psychology. And I know how to spell Matejovsky...
