Re: Squad for Sweden

What does age have to do with it? If the players are good enough, they're good enough. Southampton took us to the cleaners at the MadStad, some excellent players, but they went down because they were too young a squad. A sprinkling of youngsters is great for their energy and optimism but you can't ...

Re: RUMOUR - Sölvi Ottesen

My impression watching the clip was that he tended to dive in. Could be a bit of a liability knowing what the stanbdard of referreeing is. That aside, he looked composed and comfortable on the ball and shoed some pace - realtive, of course, to the player he was up against. What we dont know was whe...

Re: RUMOUR - Tommy Smith

It's not difficult, Big Mike. It involves things like not getting pissed out of my head seven nights a week. If it matters I also write about 50,000 words a month and run a writing school As for degrees and such, (3.5 but no PhD) those things only arose when I was challenged in some way. eg It's a ...

Re: RUMOUR - Tommy Smith

^^ Look at me post.. You can take you 3.5 degrees and stick them up your arse.. 50,000+ words a month and a writing school. What kind of gimp boasts on a football messageboard...? Although, saying that, I can never be bothered to read your posts the few times I bother coming back here as I have far...

Re: Sshh! It's how we operate.

Was Steve Coppell a good coach? Was Steve Coppell a good motivator? Despite the club's great success in going up and the first year, who would say yes to either? I liked SCC a lot but it used to drive me bonkers listening to him, so dead-pan. Almost DE-motivating. You were priviledged to be in the ...

winchester_royal Fed

Rosenior
Pearce
Cisse
Bertrand

Harps
Marek
Karacan

R-K
Church
Henry

Much as 18 months down the line that might be an awesome set-up (with Bikey or a new CB in for Cisse)

I do wonder whether when it comes to real week-to-week battling that team could cope

Re: Striker for 4-5-1/4-3-3

We did seem to like little through balls on Monday night. Did we try the same thing v Kettering? It was all one-twos, through-balls and when that totally failed to work sideways passing which Tommy Burns would have been proud of. I can't help but think that with the players we have, attempting to i...

Re: Sshh! It's how we operate.

Only thing is Snowball, every time we capitulated at home and Coppell came out with his 'haven't got a clue' ramblings, you kept telling us all how your stats showed Birmingham had no chance and that we'd be absolutely fine. and we got to the last day, and needed 2-1 instead of 1-2 The way we contr...

Re: Sshh! It's how we operate.

Hey I greatly admired the man, Steve Coppell and to finally get into the Premiership and have two season was wonderful. But I remember the first game v Boro and it looked like a train wreck early on and I thought it was a relegation season. When we got back and won that, I was amazed. I truly believ...

Re: Shane Long

Back to the topic, Simon Church has been played more and impressed more so far in pre-season. What does this mean for Shlong? On the (very) little I've seen, I'd agree that Shane should be worried. But I think a few friendlies means almost nothing. This is a tough league with the emphasis on TOUGH ...

Re: Striker for 4-5-1/4-3-3

Noel Hunt for me - he's got the best touch, reasonably strong, extremely good in the air for his size (even if we won't be playing hoofball this season) and is also good with his back to goal. I can see him being very important this season as he gives us options the likes of Long and Church don't a...

Again, I don't see Shane on the end of that kind of ball, whereas the front few seemed to have quite a good understanding in the first half on Monday

Re: Striker for 4-5-1/4-3-3

Good question. I had got it into my head that the 1 in a 4-5-1 had to be a big, burly guy who played with his back to goal (and I guess it depends on how the manage wants to play things) But my kid argued that there are other ways to be the 1. IF we are talking a player like Jason Scotland, good at ...
