Re: Goal scoring problems?

Cheers, Dave.I'm 99.99% certain I have that book and I'm 100% certain I haven't yet read it. The Nisbett & Ross book = Nisbett, R. E., & Ross, L. (1980). "Human inference: Strategies and shortcomings of social judgment." Englewood Cliffs, NJ: Prentice-Hall. is really good (and stil...

Re: Loanwatch: Season 2010-2011

Personally I don't think I need that many games to judge a players strengths and weaknesses. I'm certainly not going to watch a full season of another clubs games just to confirm the ability of a sub-standard squad player at Reading! A players level of quality might ebb and flow depending on form, ...

Re: Loanwatch: Season 2010-2011

Two on TV (cup highlights) and a couple of reserve games..?

Isn't that a very small sample?

Wouldn't the half-a-season at Charlton, the games at Norwich and now Colchester be a better sample?

41 + (10) games and 14 goals versus TV highlights and a couple of reserve games?

Re: Harte Signs

We're not going INTO the Millwall game, we're several games down the line from there. Choosing to weigh up the difficulty of the fixture by picking and choosing which results to look at is ridiculous when you've now got a ten game sample size rather than five. NOT my point. When we traveled to Mill...

Re: Goal scoring problems?

Obviously, if Shane Long had scored 1 in 2 this year, (on top of the goals we DID get), we'd be top or second, now. It's all very well to hypothetically "bring in a 20-goal striker" but will that GOAL-SCORER do all the hard-work that Long is currently being asked to do? Jason Scotland seem...

Re: Loanwatch: Season 2010-2011

It's one thing scoring goals for these clubs but to get in our side he has the be better than what we already have. You seem convinced that Long is a 20+ goals Championship forward. Church and Hunt are probably just as good as Long in many ways, although all three have slightly different strengths ...

Re: Countdown to Rodgers' return

Rodgers and his sympathisers moaned at the time that he was starting to turn the corner when he was sacked, but in his last 4 games we recorded just 4 points and the last couple of games under his tenure comprised of a staggering 1-1 home draw against relegation favourites Scunthorpe in a game we e...

Re: Loanwatch: Season 2010-2011

Why PRECISELY do people not rate this guy? He has had two starts for Reading and scored two goals! He has 5 goals in 11 starts for Colchester 2009 - 10 League 22 (08) 06 Charlton 2008 - 09 League 08 (01) 03 Norwich City 2008 - 09 League 02 (00) 00 Stockport 2008 - 09 League 01 (00) 01 Cork 2007 - 08...

Seen THAT Before

Bristol City chairman swearing he'll back the manager said yesterday:

"To be honest the first ten games of this season have been virtually our pre-season."

I wonder if he knows Rodgers?

Re: Goal scoring problems?

But why over analyse something that inspires blind loyalty, passion, emotion, opinion and, yes, fallibility in it's followers. Turn football into a spreadsheet and all you do is lose the inherent humanity and uncertainty that makes following your team so exiting in the first place? There is nothing...

Re: Goal scoring problems?

Please note the word THINK. Just checking because you seem to have a big problem at times with people doing the same thing and forming opinion without stats to back it up. I give little credence to what i "think" or to what others "think" because subjectivity and intuition is th...

Re: Loanwatch: Season 2010-2011

Victor Meldrew As for Mooney:-
Coppell didn't rate him
Rodgers didn't rate him
McD doesn't rate him
Isn't that enough or are you in love with him as he is yet another Irishman?
Presumably Bono and The Nolans are your favourite singers?

Ummm, who scouted him? Who signed him?

Re: Loanwatch: Season 2010-2011

Mooney has 5 goals this season in 11 starts.

That's not exactly terrible. He's scored 35% of his club's goals.

Didn't someone suggest we need a goal-scorer?

Oh, wait, he's cr@p, like Kebe, Cummings, Bikey, Harte, Pearce, Steve Hunt, Griffin....

Re: Harte Signs

I don't care about "form" so much as I care about how good the opposition are. I'd suggest that, say, Millwall's record over the entire season to date is a rather truer reflection of their ability than only looking at the first four games. I'm not even passing comment on whatever it is yo...

Re: Harte Signs

Away to then all-conquering Millwall, away to Boro, home to Ipswich away to Preston who had just won 6-4 at Leeds and 2-0 at Coventry... Great spin. You could just as easily say: Away to Millwall who have a P5 W0 D2 L3 record since we played them - Watford won 6-1 at the Den in the very next game :...
