Chaney can Lita leave on a free?..not sure, he will still be under 24 then

He would just about be under 24 by 5-6 months. But what paltry amount would we be awarded for him leaving? It would be paltry!

Thank God the people running Reading FC are not as thick as you.

Indeed. So he leaves on a free and we get a small (paltry) amount in compo.

Wonderful.

Define 'paltry' though....

It would be 7 figures, several times over.

Behave!

It's compo, not a full on transfer fee for what we value him at.

if its what i value Compo at then it's a bag of peanuts and a pint of piss.

But it isn;t arrived at by guesswork...

It's based on what the club has done to develop the player whilst he has been with them.

So we paid a million for a Div 1 player, and they would be looking at valueing a player who then became a regular scorer in a top championship side, a regular scorer at a top Premiership side, a regular scorer for an international U21 side and their best player at a top international tournament. Our valuation of Lita would need to be around £10 million, a tribunal would not get near that, but would have to decide on several million as measured by the progress of th eplayer whilst with us.

We will know we can attract top players when they can afford to come to training in helicopters rather than cars....

But can you rely on tribunals to do their job properly and come up with a realistic figure?

I can't remember who it involved but I'm sure we got really screwed by a transfer tribunal valuation back in the bad old days!

What's Royal Rother going to say about this? Is he there simply because of his instinct finishing? That he had no time to think about being in the Dream Team?

I do recall the incident, but not who it involved !
I would hope that valuing a Premiership player is rather easier than valuing a Div 1 reserve though ... Leroy ticks all the boxes for a sensible price to be paid if the situation ever arises.

We got severely stitched up when Neil Webb went to Portsmouth - and there may be others

Not sure an incident 20 years ago should worry us too much then !

Different world in those days.

tribunal is more likely to set the price at what they are worth rather than what others are willing to pay.

so I'd say something like £3-4m rather than £6-12m. completely academic at the moment though.

How does that work ?

If someone is willing to pay an amount then the player is worth that amount !

A tribunal will at least try and work a value out, rather than just offering a blank cheque, which is how the transfer market seems to operate these days. Plus every seller thinks they will have been stitched up and not got the 'true' value of their player.
