Why not give Henry a chance

by Bath Hoops » 22 Nov 2007 09:00

We've struggled to find anyone to fill that right sided midfield slot since Glen's injury, and we have a youngster who is showing alot of promise why not give him a chance ? Personally I'd prefer to see him played there than any of the other options we have at the moment including Oster.

He seems to be finding his feet and gaining in confidence, I know its different playing in League 1 compared to the premiership but if you don't give the kids a chance how will you ever find out. I can't believe he will put in any worse a show than those who have been given a chance so far.

He will get his chance, but at the moment he is getting some first team experience, getting his match fitness and sharpness and gaining in confidence.

When he comes back he WILL be ready, but whether he gets his chance is another matter entirely.

Currently the club and doing this the right way, but it is pointless if he doesn't come back to a place in the matchday squad.

No question that it was the right thing to give him a chance for some first team football, but for how long do you let that go on when you don't have a solution in your own team. You can't keep on citing inexperience when the experience players aren't doing the job, at some point you've got to give the lad a chance to have a go. I just hope its sooner as we are missing a player who takes players on and can deliver a decent cross.

One more month in my opinion.

According to SSN this morning, Blakey has gone to see another specialist today about his achillies problem. Regardless of what happens this season, we need to patch him up for one game and get him out there to say goodbye to us

The club said a couple of days ago that he was going to see the surgeon today.

The club have said that Henry is on loan so that he can come back and break into the first team.

I think that means they intend to give him a chance.

For me it is quite simple, let him play the last few games in december, such as middlesborough, liverpool and west ham......if he dissapoints then we know a new RM in Jan is a must and we can send Henry out on loan

if he does well then we have solved a crisis, and saved some money

Playing Henry won;t save any money. We need to bring in a new right winger in any case. Thinking an 18 year old unproven but promising player will solve anything is a bit optimistic.

He should get some games, but the £1 million on Stelios would still make sense even if Little has a chance of playing this season.

We certainly need to sign a right winger.

Oster is too inconsistent, Rosienor is a right back and Little is (sad to say) getting on a bit and injury prone.

Playing Henry in a couple of games between now and christmas if he is capable certainly can't do any harm in the long run.

Given he was not allowed to play for Bournemouth in the FA cup, it seems likely he will stay on loan through the holidays and then come into Reading's side for the 3rd round.

I have to agree that Reading will buy a right sided midfielder in January no matter what Henry does, so Henry might get a few matches in Janaury before going back out on loan.

We'll spend big on a winger in January. Henry will be 2nd choice.

The real question is why wasn't this sorted out in the summer when as Coppell tells us all the time it is so much easier to do business.

Surely the answer , which Coppell himself has said on several occasions is that he thought we were OK and wanted to remain loyal to his current squad. Something he subsequently has come to realise was a mistake.

Henry himself is optimistic - a good sign. He's quoted in today's Times as saying: "Hopefully I can push on here then come back and push for the first team".

With not one fit right winger in the squad? That's what puzzles me. He had no one to be loyal to.
