I can see both sides of the story here.
It goes without saying that the long term future of Reading FC is the most important thing, but at the same time I think every Reading fan has the right to question the apparant black hole in to which vast sums of cash appear to have vanished.
Wherever the money has gone, the club should come out and explain it to us as this issue is coming up time and time again. The speculation need to be put to rest. If it is true that Mr M Is linining his pockets (which I doubt) then we deserve to be told. After all, the club are likely to owe Mr M a ton of cash and if its those loans being repaid then I dont think anyone can argue the point - but I dont want to hear Mr M talk about cutting cloth and appetite for promotion ever again.
Whatever the financial issue, I think the club could benefit massively from a high profile signing, after all we are having to slowly watch the back bone of our team vanish off to other teams with the transfer kitty apprantly vanishing even quicker!
I agree with previous comments regarding Mr Madejski - I dont think we will ever see Reading back in the Premiership with him here, but conversely I dont see us going bust under his stewardship either. I would far rather us be the club that we are in the Championship than become a slave to foreign investors such as Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City in the Premiership. Can you imagine what that must be like as a fan to watch your whole club get sold off!!
I have also argued that the most worrying thing about the club is the disparity between what they say and what they do. The mouth is commenting on the commitment to getting Reading back to the Premiership, but the actions are appearing to do the opposite. In my book you cant sell off the back bone of your squad one day and spout vitriol about promotion the next.
I think we will see a signing or two before the window shuts - the lack of investment in new, experienced players in to the squad over the past few years has been a real issue. I hope the youngsters are good enough for the job, I just hope we dont leave it too late to realise if they are not up to the grade.
On a final note regarding season ticket numbers. I appreciate that the lack of season tickets is causing a hole in the clubs finances, but things have become stale over the past two years and as important an appointment that Brendan Rogers is, it was not enough to warrant me splashing out to renew. The club PR is appalling and more should be done to promote some positivity. I am sorry, but I personally have not seen enough being done to take the club forward and having a one year old boy is damn expensive so I couldnt justify it.
