Yeah Mooney must be on the way out - if you can't get on the pitch given this season's lack of firepower then you never will.

Back to the Chelsea-style Super 23. Two for each position +1 extra keeper leads to a squad something akin to:-

3xgks

Cummings
Kelly

Bertrand
Armstrong

Pearce or Cisse
Mills
Ingi
O'Dea

Karacan
Gunnarsson

Howard
Matejovsky or Davies

Sigurdsson
Kebe
McAnuff
Robson-Kanu (or Matejovsky or Davies)

Rasiak
Church
Long
Hunt

Looking at the squad list I make that 5 to go in some way or other.

FWIW my five are;

Cisse
Marek
Mooney
J Kelly
Antonio

Davies is very raw but undoubtably has a lot of potential, league 2 to Championship may have been too big of a jump to expect him to make in one season.

that said, he's impressed me every I've seen him play.

I've also been impressed with Antonio though I doubt he'll make many first team appearances this year. Maybe he could get some loan experience, then come back and displace Kebe next season?

Personally i think this is the most positive thing to happen since Rodgers took over (assuming he rids of the obvious candidates).

This gives us every chance of a settled squad and consistency, which was one of the main reasons why we were so good for 2 seasons in 2005-2007. Only time will tell if the players that remain will be good enough, and lets face it did we all think Coppells squad was good enough after the Plymouth game of 2005/2006? No.

Rodgers needs time, and we need patience.

When you look at that squad surely we are not far from stringing a run of good results together?

ZacNaloen Long is injured AP and has been since the international break, "no room" isn't quite what I would call accurate there considering he was on the bench for every match up to then iirc.

I must have missed him get injured when I was on holiday, Mooney is definitely one that will be going. Long still may find himself surplus to requirements as he still can't hold down a first team place here despite everyone being sold off.

Every now again someone on this talks with reason. Your comment was a light among the regular rent-a-rant mob that dominate all discussion boards, and this one in particular at this time. We are the silent majority.

Alan Partridge I think he's right. I mentioned on another thread, we've got a big squad of players of similar ability/styles. Which is a nightmare if the team isn't winning,

The bit that concerns me is exactly this, what will be the real gain from offloading duplicates of under performing players?

He recognises a need for stability, if he has too many player of similar quality there is no way he can get a stable team and play everyone and keep everyone happy.

Getting some of them out will be the best thing for them all.

Equally though, what would be the risk?

winchester_royal This was always likely to be the case after around 10 games.

It would have been impossible for BR to know who his best players were without seeing them in competitve situations under his new tactics, and once we now start to get some consistency we might start shooting up the table. :)

totally agree
and fits in with the timescale of the extended preseason etc
i also believe its a geat thing (after the eprceived lack of opportunity for some of the kids under coppell) that he gave everyone their chance to perform for him, and hopefully the ones who now go out on loan cant have any argument with it, and will work twice as hard to get back here.

people forget with the inconsistancy of this league that it is possible to be bottom three at xmas, an top half by may
and if we manage anywhere near tthat after testing our whole squad, & rebuilding it in brendans image, i believe weve got our selves a top manager for this club

- henrys already out on laon at millwall- deservedly so, not looked up to this level so far IMO, and maybe with the pressure off a league down he can get his head straighy
