Gylfi Sigurdsson injured - doubtful for Forest

by IcelandicStokie » 14 Jan 2010 16:52

From Fotbolti.net: http://fotbolti.net/fullStory.php?actio ... y&id=85871

No broken bone for Gylfi but he is doubtful for next game

Gylfi Sigurdsson might have to sit through saturdays game against Nottingham Forest after suffering a injury in the epic cup win over Liverpool last night.

He had a scan this morning and thankfully no bone is broken.

"I think someone trampled my foot, with the studs penetrating towards the bone. The bone is bruised but thankfully nothing is broken," Gylfi told Fotbolti.net.

"I have a trouble walking and I dont know how much time I will need to recover from this."

Horrible news. Time for the new Icelander to step-up?

If this is true, then it's a huge blow.
We'll probably start Kebe on the left and have Robson-Kanu on the bench.

Gylfi must be banging on the door of the full team now IS?

When is Iceland's next game?

Anything on Illgusson either? I heard he was very badly injured.

I'll be very surpriced if Gylfi will not start the next game for Iceland. Im hoping he will be deployed in the hole behind Eidur Gudjohnsen and Heidar Helguson/Gunnar Thorvaldsson, with Coventrys Aron Gunnarsson doing the donkey work in midfield.

Gylfi has been scoring for fun for the U-21s lately and deserves his chance for the full time. We need him in the Euro qualifiers and I am really hoping to get England for once although it will be a massarce I think. The last time we met England, you won 6-1 in a mini tournament before the 2004 Euro Championships.

Regarding Illugason, he is now playing for Valur in Iceland ans has recovered reltively well from all injuries.

Glad he's playing again, looked really serious back end of last season.

Funny how he was the one who came with all the hype and Gylfi turned out the star.

We desperately need a left winger if Sig is going to be out for any length of time. Kebe is too stupid and lightweight despite al his other talents. HRK has potential, but can we really rely on him in the trouble we are in?

I think we need one regardless.

Gylfi wasted out there to an extent, I think he could run games from in the middle.

As we've agreed b4 I also think he can do the number 10 role.

I agree with all that, now it strikes me as absolutely essential. In the middle Howard or Marek can take his place. Out wide, we have no-one good enough.

James Henry might be in with a shout of playing if Gylfi's injured.

It says on the Reading site under the news article "it hasn't sunk in" that Gylfi is fully focused on HIS trip to Forest.

An article published on the GetReading web site also suggests he'll be playing:

Wouldn't it be on the OS if he was out?

McDermott says Sig and Marek are doubtful and Bryn is knackered in his video interview on the OS.

Brian McD said in his pre Forest interview ( on reading player) that Marek is out with a Stomach problem, and they were keeping an eye on Gylfi who has a 'foot problem'. They were also 'monitoring' Gunnar, he didn't mention any specific injury with him but said he was incredible on Wed and put in a massive shift...suggest they don't think he will last 90 minutes 3 days later.
