Be a terrible shame if we can't get Griffin

I honestly believe that he was one of the main reasons for Kebe's form. another random right back and we could lose Kebe's input

Dave Jones’s beaten play-off finalists have the financial edge on Royals, who have been trying to sign the Stoke City right-back since he ended his successful spell on loan at the club last month.

Although Reading are unwilling to pay a fee,

Dave Jones’s beaten play-off finalists have the financial edge on Royals

Surely that can't be true!

I assume the "financial edge" bit comes from the fact Cardiff would be willing to pay a fee up front for him.

A bid of £1 is still better than a free transfer....

Yeah I understand that but my point is why? They're looking to offload anyone on big wages in an attempt to avoid administration and from what i've read they're not looking to bring anyone in!

Isn't this more to do with how our club is financially well run..and the likes of Cardiff just spend spend spend and don't care about the consequences...ie nearly going out of business...

More bad news im afraid. Khiz not coming in is a big shock and a real dampener. Now griff is a doubt also? LOL at our defence next season as this williams won't be a patch on bertrand either.

I think we need to give it 6 weeks to see what our defence will be next season.

Big Foot I think the club are trying to see how little they can get away with paying to secure Griffin to then know how much is left in the pot to work out how much to spend on Khiz.

I think I heard somewhere that in negotiations, the first party to make the offer is at a disadvantage. Also works on the gameshow "the price is right". 8)

No surprise to me if Griffin doesn't sign. No cash for signings or reasonable wages. Last seasons defence of Griffin, Bertrand and Zurab (occasionally) is all but a distant memory. Where oh where did all the cash from the Premiership go!! (Not that one again!!)

My view is we won't get Griffin because of the family thing.
He'll stay at stoke and fight for his place.

To be honest I'm beginning to get rather angry with Mr. Hammond and Mr. Madejski- surely they realise that before those 2 loan players came in, we were heading for League 1 football. And now they seem foolish enough to continue relying on inexperience and supposedly this will keep players like Sigurdsson at the club- they are a total joke. Both players are cheap, want to come and could turn us into a promotion team- but no Madejski is too short sighted to see that if we were to sign those players then he could sell the club in the prem. Expect another struggle for the first half of this season. Sell long and Fedders for the money and then sign these players who are a lot more important to the club

We are willing to sign Griffin. I imagine around £200k would do it, but it's Griffin who is finding it difficult to relocate.

I agree we should stump up the "6 figure" sum for Khiz. Six figures isn't much these days, especially when you consider that we are unlikely to purchase any other players this summer. Four CBs of Khiz, Mills, Ingi and Pearce sounds good to me.

He's not staying at Stoke, pretty sure of that.

He'll hang on to see if anyone comes in that is close enough for him to commute to. If no one does then he'll join us. It may not be until late July though as you can't blame him for keeping his options open.

Reading manager Brian McDermott is close to agreeing a deal for out-of-favour Stoke defender Andy Griffin.

The 31-year-old made 21 appearances after joining the Royals on loan in January, but progress over a possible permanent deal has been slow despite McDermott chasing the Potters since the end of the season.

Griffin has not started a league game at the Britannia Stadium since falling down the pecking order, making just three appearances last season, all of which were in the Carling Cup, before his switch to the Madjeski.

The Royals manager admits that there is still some work to do to sign the former Newcastle full-back but is hopeful of getting his man.

He told the Reading Chronicle: "I'm happy with my squad but obviously I still need a right-back and everyone knows the one I want.

"It is something we're trying very hard to do. There has been dialogue between us and Stoke and the situation has to come to a conclusion at some point soon.

"We've still got a bit of work to do but we're hoping it will be sooner rather than later.

Does anyone know if Andy Griffin passed his medical at Hogwood today?
