If you could....

by super darren caskey » 05 Nov 2010 23:05

If you could add a former royals player from the past at the peak of their career to the current squad who would it be and the reason why?

As goals are a bit of a problem at the moment my choice would be a striker and their are plenty to choose from that have hit the net on a regular basis for reading.I feel a jimmy quinn in his reading prime would fit the bill for me.

For his pace and finishing skills, Nicky Forster in his prime.

Only heard stories about him, obviously, but I imagine Robin Friday would be a decent player to come and watch every Saturday.

Of the players I've seen, Kitson, without a shadow of a doubt.

I still think that but for the niggling injuries he would have been a Premier League striker before we made it and if he'd stayed properly fit he would have been an England striker.

Even now I'd have him back in a heartbeat. Despite the billy big bollox attitude he developed, despite the poor seasons since he left us.

Along with him I'd have a fit and lean Caskey, and Wdowczyk. Players who would always make my team.

The player that we have never properly replaced: Steve Sidwell.

If I was being greedy, I would like to see Wdowczyck and Quinn in the team. These 3 would add so much to the spine of the side. Lob in Shaka and Sonks at his best and we would be flying.

If your all bending the rules and picking a few then...along with jimmy quinn i would have a slim caskey and adie williams. If loan players can get in also then i would add jim leighton.

Maybe a Reading alltime eleven plus 5 subs would have been a better thread though as im new i assumed it might have been done to death before.

Brilliant thread.

I would be tempted of course to say Gylfi but our blatant squad deficiency, even with him, was and still is our strikeforce.

Sticking with a lone striker system I'd love to see Forster back but that'd mean getting rid of Mr Zero, and no decent 4-4-2 option, none of which I'm really a fan of.

So to give us another option of a big striker who could partner Long/Church/Hunt effectively I'd have to agree with Ian and go with Kitson or maybe Quinn.

I would also have an eye on (Oooh) Trevor Morley, as this man could score over 20 goals in a relegation team. Miss him and I think he could do a good job for our current squad.

Overall: KITSON.
