McAnuff as Captain ?

by Gunny Fishcake » 27 Nov 2010 20:24

Has there ever been a less inspirational woeful captain in Reading FC's long history than McAnuff who had the honour today against Leeds ?

What a ludicorus choice by McDermott

Really? I've no qualms with McAnuff being captain. What exactly did he do wrong today with regards to being a captain?

He doesn't lead by example, is selfish on the ball, and shies away from tackles.

Getting a little bored of him TBH, hasn't performed consistently for a long time.

Until kebe came on, he was the only threat we had. He had a good game today and I don't see a problem with him being stand in captain.

I have no problems with him captain, hes louder than mills on the pitch from what i can see. He also is a very popular figure around the training ground

+1

Final ball and decision making has been woeful for a while now too.

Good choice, he's a manager's player.

He seems popular, has spoken about the obligation of older players to mentor the younger, and seems to play better when he feels valued. Given that the captain's role is limited to calling a largely irrelevant coin toss, I can't see many reasons not to give him the job.

A good Club Captain but not a leader on the field. The issue of who wears the armband isn't a major one but what the team need is more on field leaders regardless of who wears the armband. At the back in particular one of the centre backs needs to be calm but vocal.

Good choice as captain. Obviously you have something against McAnuff, but from what I saw he didn't really do anything wrong.

Thought McAnuff had a great game today - really don't understand all the vitriol towards him. Constantly worked for the ball & tried to urge the team on. Given he has lost his preferred spot of right wing to Kebe, the captaincy seems a great bit of man management by BM to get the most out of it & clearly it worked.

I'd have him as capt over Mills any day of the week - at least he leads by example & doesn't get booked every bloody game.

Get off the bloke's fcuking back - been an extremely good player for us since signing.

Agree.

We haven't had a decent captain since the loss of Murty tbh so I'm not bothered.

Tipifies everthing that's wrong with this club at the moment, just a journey man who when he gets a better offer somewhere else will be off,no end product whatsoever,if he did he would be playing in the premier league somewhere, very inconsisdent............More like McAduff than McAnuff..........
