SHORT AND CURLY To be honest today was poor. We were bad and they were worse.
Still three points thanks very much.

For whatever reason we never really got going.
Jobi and Kebe  (Jobi a red card waiting to happen Good substitution)
Howard and Long were good, defence generally OK
Jem and Tabb did OK
McCarthy fluffed a few easy catches and made a couple of saves.

Both goals up the other end, looked like the first was a shot by long and mistake by Ashdown. Second what looked like a straight forward penalty from the North Stand as their defender took Long out.

I suppose sometimes you haver to grind out results and today was one of those days.

Pleased we beat the pikeys though as it seems years since we last did. Well over due result.

My MOM Howard.
Chump of the day Halford  (By the way thanks for the mill profit to whoever it was we sold him to.)

What game were you watching? We played well and McCarthy was quality- saved us in the 1st half and has superb handling- he will be a stretch ahead of Federici in a few years. Jobi red card waiting to happen- care to explain that one? He was injured hence the poor display. Karacan was superb, held the play together and generally bossed it. Did you sit outside the stadium?!

Who said MCarthy didnt do well??? He saved us at times but also messed up on a couple of occasions.

Jobi was lucky not to be sent off. Funny how he was subsituted after a reckless challenge having already been booked! (What game where you watching!!)
Apart from that he was the poorest player in a Reading shirt today. It pains me to say this as a big fan of his.

He was taken off because he was injured. Not because of any reckless challenge!

Take the three point and sixth place and move on.

Dave Kitson should have had Pompey 2-0 up and out of site before Long's brace put us 2-0 up.

We were dire in the second half against 10 men surely we should have applied the pressure?

Long and Howard both played well with McCarthy save in the first half from Kitson crucial.

From the games I've been fortunate to see this season today's Reading line-up looked somewhat makeshift. That taken into consideration it was a good performance. The first five minutes or so set the scene, misplaced passes from both sides. thought Pompey's finishing was lamentable.

There was a glasslike feel to the side without Liegertwood (sp.). Kebe frustrated/delighted in disproportionate fashion. Howard the same. Long again showed a strength and determination fully meriting his goal tally. Nicely taken penalty, stylish and pragmatic. Great shot for the first also, seemed that Ashdown might have been tardy getting to it, perhaps, although couldn't be too sure.

Bryn played well after a shaky spell, him and Ingimarsson are consummate professionals. I thought 'small body massive head' Tabb played a good game, tenacious in the tackle and always looking around him. Increasingly pleased with the young keeper, he's growing in confidence and that spreads in turn to the defence. Not in a rush to see Federici back, tbf.

We lacked fluidity at times, but when it did surface, we looked streets ahead of Portsmouth.

All in all a good piece of work. Did the dirty in the first half, and policed them in the second with little collateral damage.

Very nice to beat this shower after years of enduring the nub end of naff-all against the bastards while they noise off in the stands with the usual 'mush'-talk winkle-mockney tones.

In balance, some of their fans were reasonably funny on the bus from town, good natured and non-punchy. Rare and slightly refreshing, rather like the unstained underwear of a Southsea virgin.

Not so the arm-spreaders giving it large at the end, in the end. You lost the Pikey Derby. No need for fisticuffs, you pooves.

Cheers.

Lovely stuff. Not my words, the words of Shakin' Stevens.

Tbh, not the most immaculate of performances, both wingers were pretty quiet, Howard struggled - although it was his through-ball for the game-breaking 2nd. Just heard an interview with Steve Cotteril on BBC where he was bemoaning his luck with that decision, but tbh Shane got goalside of his man and if Rocha isn't clever enough to avoid a coming together being manufactured then it is quite frankly tough titty. Got to send the man off there, clean through on goal, game over cheers and f*ck off. Karacan was excellent in the middle of the park, AMc made a crucial save at 0-0, Zurab imperious. Pompey were lucky not to go down to 9 with a quite appaling challenge by their number 4 in the second half, so stick that up your carrot-crunching pipe, Cotteril. Also - Halford at centre-half, ALOL.

Pompey fans as charmless as ever. It was like Bash Street Kids day out at the end with the embarassing attempt at a bit of disorder in the corner. Also, I've rarely seen so many people sat on the kerbs on the roads around the stadium trying to sober up - obviously can't handle their Rum, these sailor boys.

By all accounts, the Pompey chairman was sayt in the away end today and towards the end was chased out by a members of the Pompey firm who wanted to discuss the result and other matters related to the club with him.

John Madejski's Wallet
LoyalRoyalFan Decent performance.

Shane Long and Howard the two stand out performers. Maybe the people that slate Howard will finally realise what an important player he is.

 @ the person on the radio who said Robson Kanu was shocking.

^^^ He is

And Howard was frustratingly anonymous/useless up until his beautifully weighted through-ball for the pen. Grew into the game after that.

What a complete and utter load of bollox!! He had already produced a succession of great passes prior to that. There was also an incident when he just dipped his shoulder to wrong-foot two opponents and burst past them towards the goal only to be brought down for the free-kick in a central position that Harte came very close to scoring from.

He also displayed great skill immediately before the fantastic pass that led to the penalty. He found himself out wide on the left midway inside his own half and surrounded by three opponents. You could see him look around to try to find a team-mate to lay the ball off to. When he couldn't see anyone he somehow wriggled away from the players closing on him, worked his way down the touchline and then curled that delightfully weighted and placed pass around the centre back and straight into Long's run.

Sorry mate but it wasn't that great a pass.
We were sat right behind it and it was a pass that the centre-back should have dealt with easily but he made a hash of it and brought Long down.
On chances made Pompey could have been about 6-2 up by half-time but football is about taking chances and we took ours.
As ever the manager was spot on in the interview afterwards in saying that we were poor in the second half-isn't it good to have a bloke like him (and Coppell) who is not full of the bullshit that we got from Pardew and Rodgers?.
The good thing is that without Jobi or Kebe firing we still won.
Talking of Kebe I wonder why he has stopped trying to go past his man-today it was the ancient Hreidarsson who was there for the taking.
He really hasn't been the same since the injury.

He may have had a knock, but Mcdermot told HRK to strip off the minute jobi made that reckless challenge in the 2nd half, so sorry you're wrong on this one buddy

Amazing that we were officially promoted to the Prem earlier in the season than we have guaranteed safety from relegation this season. Despite being in the play off hunt.

I don't remember a reckless challenge, maybe there was one. If so, so be it. But he won't have been taken off just because of the challenge.
