Perhaps his new bosses told him to - so that fans could see who we could have got.

He might as well have added in Tevez and Rooney tbf.

Isn't the common factor here that we didn't actually get any of them?

He doesn't say he went for Maynard.

He enquired about mackail-smith, but BHAFC's price was not even in the ball-park, whilst bridge and Andrews COULD have come here had Premiership sides not made them offers which they (not surprisingly) took.

Reading between the lines, the Andrews deal MIGHT be back on in the Summer.

It could be a smokescreen. Reading "knew" they would not get them, so they put there interest to "show" they mean business. Afterall there is no point chasing players whom are heading for the upper heights. Better to focus on the ones whom have failed and need to dip down to the championship to prove themselves.

Got to laugh at Reading really. We hear so much self-righteous BS from the club about 'the Reading way' how we do things discreetly, we don't talk about/unsettle other teams players.....except now we have - allegedly - a bit of cash to throw around and following the close of a transfer window where we have basically signed our usual array of cast offs and free transfers, we come out with all this 'lets have a look at what you could have won' posturing.

Got to laugh at you really. Discreet is bullshit according to yourself then coming out with targets is also bullshit?

Have you ever really thought about why you moan so much?

The self-righteousness is BS because coming out with the targets is posturing.

Have a nice weekend.

LoyalRoyalFan Anyone else slightly annoyed that McDermott has come out in public and said this?

not at all. perhaps the idea is to tell our competitors these new owners mean business; they are ambitious, and we want to return to the premiership as soon as possible.

what is a little interesting is that mcdermott said cms was too expensive, so perhaps peoples expectancy of £3m+ signings in the summer could be a little ambitious, or not, as we're lead to believe some funds were made available this window and more will be in the summer.

I think he probably felt the amount BHA wanted for too much.

I don't think we will necessarily spend huge money, it would be very unlike us to pay over the odds for someone, especially with Hammond involved. But I think when the right players become available we will be in a much better position to get them. Obviously this is all speculation, just what I got from the interview and the noise coming from the club over the last few weeks.

i would say three or four new signings in the summer in the region of £1-2m each would be seen as very ambitious, certainly in my eyes it would be. we know we wont see rash spending like the leicester's and west ham's.

CMS is no longer value for money as far as i'm concerned. Brighton bought him at the right time.

No point in lashing out over the odds on players.

Exactly, no point wasting 3m on CMS. Doesn't mean we won't spend that in the future.

agreed. The fact we could have gone for them is so encouraging. If we get promoted I wonder what calibre of player we will be dealing with.
