RoyalChicagoFC Indeedio, and the fact that Brum's to us at 25 exceeds by 1 the number of combined points on offer to them (12) and us (+ 12 = 24) means that they can do no better than finish on level points with us (and the fact that ours to them is 1 means the same thing)

Isn't Brum's to us 24, as they would certainly have a better goal difference with 4 wins vs 4 losses for us?

So I'm clear I understand this,

If we win on friday AND West Ham lose on the weekend the magic number for promotion certainty becomes 1?

Here is a cut out 'n keep easy to follow matrix

Friday:

Reading win - magic number (over West Ham) = 4
Reading draw = 6
Reading lose = 7

Saturday (If Reading win Friday)

West Ham win = 4
WH draw = 2
WH lose = 1

Saturday (If Reading draw Friday)

WH win = 6
WH draw = 4
WH lose = 3

Saturday (If Reading lose Friday)

WH win = 7
WH draw = 5
WH lose = 4

(I think!!)

Yeah is, but I didn't want to muddle the issue (further) by doing an additional paragraph's worth of explic8ion

And of course the only way it comes into play is under the we-finish-0-0-4/they-finish-4-0-0 :o scenario

In which case mass suicide the world over ≈ 1430 BST on 28 April, with sunny Berks the epicentre, and I've got to reckon I'd have to join in

It's just simpler if you leave GD out.

More to the point, it is vital that you do. GD is unpredictable. The Magic number is not.

More than just that...4 points and we're up!

Screw the rest, it's ours for the taking, smash and grab.

If West Ham lose to Brighton tomorrow, promotion could be at home on Tuesday...

If West Ham fail to win tomorrow, we can secure promotion by beating Forest.

Even if Wham win tomorrow, we are now inside the 6-point swing parameter whereby we can always be promoted in the next game. If they beat Brighton, but fail to beat Bristol City and we beat Forest, we're up anyway. 8)
