West Ham's game on Tuesday kicks off at 19:45; ours is at 20:00 - so we ought to know their result before our game finishes .
No more 'give us the *** results' :D

We now have 9 points left to play for

With Brighton on their dance card for Saturday, West Ham have 12 points left to play for

Add the two together, and of course you've got 21 points

In order to keep us from going up ahead of them, West Ham now require a minumum of 18 of those 21 points to break their way

If they were to beat Brighton, then that'd leave them needing no fewer than 15 of the 18 combined remaining points on offer to break their way

I'm confused, I always thought 3 was the magic number.

4 remains the magic number.

I'm now torn - Brizzle doing us a favour and us winning puts us up before next Saturday when I get my annual Madejski trip.

Do I risk wanting WHU to win, us to get at least a point against Forest so that I can be there for the promotion game ?

However after Brighton's di*king at the hands of Westsham, they've now got the goal difference on their side. Shouldn't matter though.

Stereotypes aside, Brighton really did bend over and take it up the arse from West Ham today.

In fact, we either need 4 points OR need to better WHU's result in one of the last three games.

Ummmmm, yes we can :|

We win and Sham fail to win and it's a 8/9 point gap with 6 to play for.

My bad, I was getting winning promotion and winning the title mixed up

edit: also, rather annoyingly, we can't lift the trophy next Saturday if Southampton don't drop points on Tuesday either, due to the staggered fixtures us, Soton and West Ham have next weekend.

Oh for God's sake when will people get this whole Magic Number thing. It isn't rocket science, just a simple bit of arithmetic.

Let me explain.

If West Ham don't win then they either drop 2 or 3 pts (depending on whether they lose or draw). Got that bit?

That means that our Magic number drops to either 2 or 1 on Tuesday (and the WHU result will be in before we finish since they KO 15 mins earlier than we do). Is that also simple enough?

Thus, if West Ham win, we can't get promoted on Tuesday, because we can't get 4 pts in one game.

If West Ham Draw we could be promoted by beating Forest because West Ham's 2 pts dropped added to our 3 pts gained is 5 - which is higher than the Magic Number.

If West Ham lose then we only need a draw against Forest, because West Ham's 3 pts dropped added to our 1 pt gained is 4 - which is the Magic Number.

If West Ham draw and we win, we still don't win promotion on Tuesday.

Yes we would.

That would put us on 88 points and West Ham on 80 points.

8 point gap with 2 games remaining

Please tell me how this wouldn't guarantee promotion...
