4-4-2 for Sunderland? (Team for game thread I guess)

by rhroyal » 31 Jan 2013 00:06

Against the likes of Chelsea and away from home, I would continue with 4-5-1.

However, at some to a bottom half team, it should be 4-4-2. You need to consider that 4-5-1 has had us in losing positions for the last 3 matches, only for 4-4-2 to win us 7 points.

No thanks. We've got a successful formula and changing it now would be bad news. Stick to the plan that works.

I have to agree. 4-5-1 may even get us a win on it's own, you never know.

I say play 4-3-2-1 but with Kebe and Jobi further up the pitch.

Or Mccleary on the left, with McAnuff in the middle instead of Karacan like we did against Newcastle away. Keep it tight and wait for the Alfster to come on in the 75th...

If we play 4-4-2 from the start we are way too open and have been destroyed in the past playing this way...

I have a post on this coming up on the Tilehurst end in the moming by the way...

In fairness I think he's replaced Jem with Akpan and Jobi with McLeary.....but you're right, Jobi won't be replaced..

Yup I'd give Akpan a run, McAnuff was woeful today and hasn't been on form for ages, he could do with some bench time!

Has ALF ever played as the attacking midfielder? May be an option to keep the shape at 4.5.1

No, stick with a 4-5-1. Last night we didnt look that bad...Chelsea only had 2 shots on target when we were playing that...just so happens they scored both of them!
And atcually, we were playing a 4-3-3 at the end last night, with a front 3 of alf, log and Kebe.

tempting
but id stick with the master plan for now

i think we would be more solid at the back and in the middle even in a 4-4-2 with the new confidence, and players, but its too risky

If the midfield fires, Alf won't suffer for playing up front on his own.

I'd bring in Alf for Pog and Shorey for Harte, leave the rest of the team the same. Akpan to come on for another (longer) cameo.

for us lone striker is about winning the ball, holding it up, bringing other players into the game
could do it with a player in the hole who does all that, then passes for ALF to run onto, but we just dont have one o them

4-5-1 is working. Why change it. If we need to we switch to 4-4-2 with 20-30 minutes to go. Which is also working.

Same team as Chelsea. Akpan to get more minutes under his belt as a sub again.
