Get Carter Hang on a minute - didn't AZ criticise BM for not bringing in more players in the summer & Jan transfer window?
I believe the club released about 10 players at the end of the season including first teamers Harte, Shorey, Hunt,
Tabb & Chuch as a squad player plus some youngsters & Carrico on loan.
We have signed three players and our players have their salaries reduced on relegation (I assume) & we receive
huge parachute payments.
This does not look like a push for auto promotion to me and it is obvious we need 1/2 quality strikers - surely we
deserve some proper information from Hammond as to how Adkins can possibly win promotion with the current
squad & limited investment.

Hammond quoted this morning 'we are quite happy with the squad we have'. That kind of statement just riles fans. Its blatantly obvious we don't have the right squad. Agents in the transfer market aren't stupid enough to think that this reduces the value of any of our targets. I just worry that Hammond and Adkins actually believe that. If thats the case we are in for another wasted opportunity. We always seem to get on the right track and then blow it! No investment 2008.! No investment 2011/12! No investment 2013! The sad fact is I can see Championship mediocracy if we don't sign at least 2 quality players. We could then enter a downward spiral.Come on hammond, push the boat out a bit, pay a little over the odds if we have to. The prize at the end will be worth it. At the moment Reading look like a company driven by accountants. We all know accountants are cr-p at running businesses. Where is this new era????

Whilst I'm no great fan of accountants, it is clearly incorrect to state that they are crap at running businesses. However, I suspect most that are successful at running businesses are in charge of pretty conservative, 'safe' enterprises. I doubt many are in charge of rapid growing, aggresive, calculated risk taking, innovative businesses. IMO Reading FC's approach to football business is too conservative and risk averse.

Wasn't Michael O'Leary an accountant?

I have not seen Hammond's latest quote, but last week I thought he said we needed a striker
so this would appear to be backtracking.
I know people will say the transfer window is still open but I think we are going to be very
disappointed with the lack of investment yet again.

Well there's a bunch of fukwits who are no matter what we do, so you're right about that to a certain extent.

Without two real strikers coming into the club, ideas of us being promoted are smoke in the wind. Luck and weirdness will never get us promoted again. Please. PLEASE, someone spend some money on decent strikers.

Rhodes and Austin play for clubs who apparently have far less resources than us, why don't we buy them. How much would we earn with definate promotion? Let's say we spend 20M on strikers, what does that give us in the Premiership next year?

Just because you've named yourself after Robin Friday doesn't mean you have to go ranting and raving like a drugged up alcoholic.

It's obvious we're not going to buy those players! If you want to take that up with someone e-mail your crazy ramblings to the club rather than boring us with it like you have been doing for over a year.

We'd all like someone like Rhodes but unfortunately it just isn't going to happen! Blackburn paid £8 million for him and they aren't going to sell him for anything less than £10 Million because their owners are even more batshit crazy than you are. As for Austin A. He has an injury problem hence why he didn't move to Hull and B. He is another Lita waiting to happen.

That happy with the squad statement is all too similar to the one made by BM this time last year, just look how that ended up.

Tilehurst End Whatever, be prepared for that emotional rollercoaster known as a Reading FC season.

That much is certainly true! There's already been enough ups and downs to last a season, and the season hasn't started yet. Starting with the pessimism following a dreadful campaign last time out, mass hysteria with the arrivals of messrs Drenthe and Williams and talk of Hooper/Lambert/uncle Tom Cobley and all and now a frantic panic with the first game just days away.

There's plenty more to come in August, both in and out I reckon, and the above is evidence that whatever happens 13/14 is going to be one hell of a season!

I think we have a very strong squad - but so do several other Championship teams this season. The big questions for me clearly are: a) can ALF and the Pog do the business up front and b) what difference can NA make? That's what it comes down to - on paper there are several teams that are expecting to be have a good shout at promotion, including Watford, Bolton, Forest, Wigan, QPR, etc. the question is which team has the management team with the little bit extra.

I think if we have a good start we should be in the top 4-6 ... if we don't it'll be top 10 for me.

I think we will be seen as a great footballing team but will miss out for the lack of a big striker. 8/9th in table

Please, please, please! Let things go as well as they ought to, if not better, just so we can all rub your idiotic doommongering back in your face throughout this season and next.

Or didn't spend 20m and lost 60m through relegation?

Just because you've named youself SANDMAN, does'nt mean you have to have sand between the ears! If we bought Rhodes for 10m and Austin for 5m, were promoted on their goals, I rather think that Promotion to the Prem would give us vastly more than 15M - Dickhead!

Whilst I agree with you in principle, that's a pretty big if. There's no guarantee of promotion simply through signing a couple of marquee names.

Also, there is no way on this earth that Championship Reading would spend £15m on two players.
