Captain/Vice Captain this season....

by TBM » 10 Jul 2013 11:28

Will Jobi still be captain this season? - who will take over as Vice?

Its just NA's comments today suggest Jobi may not actually be skipper this season

"What a great captain he has been. He’s got superb leadership qualities and his attitude has been top drawer."

I think you're reading too far into that.

We'll see.

Jobi with Maps deputy makes the most sense. The other way round is a possibility.

I agree you're reading more into that comment than may be there. If there's no changes announced by the end of the week, I can't see a change happening. Adkins has had the end of last season to assess the squad and who he wants to do what. He's had close season to act and now he's had the first week or so of pre-season to act. I'd have expected a change in captain to have happened already, if it was going to.

It has been a lovely day.

(right, off you go to get an umbrella!)

Reading (small 'r') way too much into that statement. I'm not sure how else Adkins could have said what he did without using a past tense.

If Jobi is remaining as captain i assume that means he is likely to be a regular starter for us next season. I can't imagine we would play 4-5-1 in the Championship, so it will be interesting to see who his preffered 4 are across midfield, assuming Mcanuff will be taking one of those spots.

Au contraire, I think that they will play a 4-2-3-1 formation. Need to get the team used to playing it. 4-4-2 is archaic. Like sooo 2006.

Karacan was captain for the first half today. His name certainly seems to be in the hat.

Nigel's comments after today

"Our previous captain Jobi McAnuff was on the bench as an impact player today so Sean Morrison got the armband.
"We won, so he will stay in the side and keep the captain's job, but Jobi has done magnificently for me and will continue to do so."

I'd rather a set decision was made so we knew it wouldn't chop and change depending on performance.. It's a positive though that Jobi has lost it. He can concentrate on his football, albeit from the bench which too is a good decision. Robson-Kanu, McCleary and Drenthe are all better wingers. I like Jobi, but he needs to work hard and be patient now, or possibly move on with Obita now also pushing the first-teamers.
