What we sound like.........

by Avon Royal » 17 Sep 2013 13:48

Interesting listen from a Radio Norfolk phone in show.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01gt1tw

Different team, different managers, exactly the same arguments.........although different accents to be fair.

Just in case anyone thought Reading fans were any different to fans anywhere.

Ah the old "Our fans are soooo rubbish. I wonder what every other clubs think of us." routine.

kwik-silva Reading fans are bigger dickheads

Because some don't agree with what you write?
Fans are the same everywhere but assuming that you are a Reading fan do you think of yourself as a bigger dickhead than fans of other clubs?

For the last time:

ALL FANS ARE TOTAL IDIOTS

a few points:

1) Fans of top 6 clubs are idiots as most don't even go to games or watch them but just brag saying "United champions again!!!" Yet never even seen old Trafford or Manchester the place

2) A loads of grounds have shit atmospheres. Much worse than Reading. We have good games and bad games. For some reason RFC fans on here seem to Hate outselves. Other clubs embrace what RFC fans on here slag off, eg drummers, clapping along to something or singing to Goal celebrations. We need to lighten up.

3) RFC are a good club with a growing fan base, decent ground*** and well run financially.

4) no, we are not like Leeds, Liverpool or United with our support - but like point 2 - it's FAR better than some other clubs.

* before someone says MadStad is a soulless bowl with nothing around it ...

Shut...up and get over it. How long has the ground been there now, and we still can't just adapt to it. Modern clubs seem more often now to build those types. But it's a good size for us. Modern, maintained. A hotel complex, something that London Irish want to play in.

In short, we need to take a reality check. Every other club similar in style, size and history to us have our hang ups. But I think we are far too negative, and actually are blind to what is good about it.

I've been to Anfield twice, Old Trafford three times and Elland Rd five times and on each occasion, the atmosphere was pretty shit in those three grounds as well. Like wise, St James' Park, Stadium of Light, Stamford Bridge, Upton Park, the lsit could go on. In fact, the only ground I've been to where the atmosphere has been consistantly good every time I've been is Bramhall Lane.

I agree with most of your post. Point 2, my personal opinion on some of us slagging off the atmosphere at the Mad Stad (me included) is it certainly has died down the past few seasons. Going back pre-2005/6, the atmosphere most games was pretty good, even our cup games (anyone remember Grays Athletic? Brilliant atmosphere that day). Obviously 2005/6 most games were electric at the Mad Stad and our first Premiership season but then after that?

I don't know what it is or why, but I know I don't enjoy home games experience as much as I used to.

I reckon there is a hard core of 3-4000 who will sing and generate the atmosphere. Pre 2005/06 with average crowds around 13,000 that number can make an impact. Suddenly you are averaging 16-17,000 plus and that hardcore 3-4000 get diluted.

Bar the big occasions it doesn't seem as loud as it used to weekly when we were lauding Jamie Cureton as a bargain, demanding 'Super Kev' off the bench, or claiming to be Stevey Coppell's Barmy Army or Blue Army for 20 minutes solid at a time... Despite the smaller crowds the biggest threat to the atmosphere back then was chants getting started and then getting obliterated by the drummer starting something else and killing it!

Must say that after the trip to Old Trafford in March, can't see what all the fuss is about. ('Theatre of Dreams' my @rse).
Reading fans were far superior to the whingeing Mancs.
