IMO, he doesn't get huge credits because he always looks like he could or should do more. How many times do you sit there on a Saturday and just want him to burn the full back for pace, hit the byline and pull the ball back for someone to slot home? For me, probably about 5 times a game

I must admit he does like to cut inside a bit as he has a good left foot shot but the above was something he does on a regular also, so I can't agree.
How does one tell if he gets huge credit or not .... by this forum?
There are many players who should do more in games every game when I sit there on a Saturday, read the threads on here.
Its probably the reason why we are where we are.

At the same time, he was by far our weakest player against Forest and was rightly subbed early on .... at the same time, being a winger is not easy especially against teams that sit deep or are very organised ...

And one of the strongest in the first game at their place
They did their homework on him. It happens.

Westroyal - we must see things very differently and it may be as a result of where I sit in the North Stand.

McCleary for me is very incosistent. Sometimes he lights up the game and wows us all with great skill and a good final ball, yet other games his crosses barely beat the first man and his shots harmlessly roll out for a goal kick. But the stats don't really lie, 12/13 assists for the season now, the highest in the league. Can not really argue with that, his consistency in the team is probably helped by the fact he has no competition on the right wing, with McAnuff, Drenthe, and Obita all being predominantly Left wingers, and Blackman is his only real competition as he seems to slot on to both wings quite nicely. And HRK is just shit.

The last three games seem to sum him up. Destroyed Bolton and Blackpool. Went missing against Ipswich.

He'll get two tonight, but he really shouldn't get one for the first as it was a heavily deflected shot that fell kindly for ALF. Quality ball for ALF's third though

I think similar for his first assist against Bolton. But hey, you don't have a crack at it and attack the defence, you can't get an assist. Fair play.

Ian Royal - alternatively he could have beaten the full back on the outside, got to the by-line and pulled it back. But that doesn't seem to be his preferred way at the moment. No right or wrong, but I personally prefer to see a winger get to the by-line and whip in a cross.

I've seen him go on the outside a lot, it's something he always did
I guess a winger will mix it up if they have a decent weaker foot. Not a bad thing especially when its producing an end product.

Good to see that Gareth has got less trigger happy than he was in the Prem. He blazed so many over in the Prem, and seems to be adapting and improving his game, which is great.

McLeary was superb last night. That said he cut inside a bit too much for me.

There was on moment in the second half when Gunter sprinted the pitch for McLeary to cut inside only to loose the ball when the correct ball was the lay off to Gunter.

He did redeem himself 5 minutes later when he cut inside once again to set up Alfie's hatrick!!

On the RFC Player interview with McCleary and Alfie they say 14 assists, no doubt that's wrong.

Our man Garath McCleary has 12 assists this season, more than any other player in the Championship.

The official reading site now says he has 10
They didn't give him the first v Bolton, the one for alfs first goal last night and the one when he got to the byline and pulled it back for pog at derby because it touched a defender on the way. If you add those 3 then its 13 so not sure where the other came from to make 14
