Adkins said when he was fit again we would look at keeping him here. Recently he said he had broken down in training and was a few weeks away, but Fordham says otherwise and that he is fit. Fordham doesn't have a glowing record for being reliable, but if he signs elsewhere when we need him and only need to agree a wage, that will be very disappointing!

Fordham said last night on Twitter that he (Baird, not Fordham) is off to Burnley tomorrow (now today...) to sign a contract until the end of the season.

Meh, not overly concerned.

Akpan has come on a lot and with Hector also capable of playing in the midfield plus any number of U21's, it didn't make much sense to keep him on.

We don't really need him and therefore don't need to shell out on his quite high wages.

Forgot he existed tbf. Figured he was either in prison, or dead. Or both.

So he's been with us trying to get back fit, he gets fit, and we can't afford to offer him a short-term contract. That really does highlight our financial position. Still, who needs Baird when you've got Akpan..

I am looking forward to the local media's view on this will it be

a) Royals plight & financial meltdown continues losing premiership star to promotion rivals

or

b) Royals decide to let Chris Baird go due to great form of Williams, Akpan and Guthrie & injury uncertainty

But if we don't need him why would we offer him a short term deal?

The one game I saw him play in, he was superb.

Then ... nothing.

He's a million times better than Akpan, and a deal lasting 2 months wouldn't kill us. Agree when Williams is fit then it's Guthrie and Williams, Akpan on the bench, but he is atrocious and Baird would be a big improvement. Still, our loss is Burnley's gain at a critical stage of the season.

It'll be c) Baird leaves because he simply can't tolerate the club's OTT hooligan fan base.

Where does it say we can't afford to offer him a short term contract?

JM has said clearly that no new player contracts will be negotiated until the ownership issue is cleared up. Therefore no-one will be added on loan or short term deals and all players whose contracts expire in the summer will be left waiting until the club sorts itself out.

In your opinion. Baird didn't look that great in the games he played for us and Akpan is nowhere near as bad as your blinkered view makes him out to be.

Well Adkins said he wanted to keep Sharp and he couldn't afford to, so... We're also putting off all contract talks until the summer for everyone who is out of contract, so it's a very safe bet to suggest we are not in a position to bring in anyone else until players go!
