A real great keeper, who we got from Chelsea. His time at Chelsea ended after conceding 14 goals in games. At the time with Rfc , Most experts said it was only his lack of height [ much like Steve Death], that stopped him going to top club and playng for England.

Still Hate Futcher! Worse than Van Der Kwaak?

Probably not but at least Ven Der Kwaak wasn't given a whole season of starts to repeatedly show how shit he was.

Shaka and Hahnemann had the benefit of playing in a good side. I would consider the best RFC keepers that I have seen were Tommy Wright Wright Wright and Mike Dixon.

Tommy Wright was a superb keeper for us, as was Jim Leighton. Steve "Steeeeeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvvvvvvoooooooooooo" Mautone was another one thats springs to mind, all superb in their own right but Steve Francis is still number 1 for me. As good as everyones posts are, does anyone know what he`s up to these days? Wikipedia and the like are all about 10 years out of date, its as if he`s disappeared off the face of the earth!! :?

I remember Steve Francis well, I think the best game I ever saw him play was a 4-0 defeat to Man City in the FA Cup, Jan 93. I remember the game could, and probably should, have finished something ridiculous like 6-6. Francis played as well as Tony Coton that night (another to have sported a really dodgy 'tache at some point in his career). It was merely the quality of finishing that set us and City apart.

By the way Steve also won player of the year , I think in 87-88 season, the first goalie to have won it since Steve Death

Mad Dog's Ghost Okay ladies.

Anyone know what Steve's up to now then.

No one does for sure! Think even David Downs would be pushed on this one!

Last RUMOUR I heard was that he had married into money and was living a very reclusive lifestyle.

From the football league paper:
Steve Francis: A goalkeeper now based in Dorridge, Solihull, who has worked for the Royal Mail for many years.

I remember going to Huddersfield first game of a season (possibly 1994/1995?) and winning 3-0. Francis was definitely in goal for them that day

Beautiful summer's day and we were very good. We played so well I put £10 on us winning the title ;)

Actually, after he left football he went on to play basketball, converted to being black too.

First game of the 93/94 Second Division title-winning season. Gooding, Quinn and Lovell the scorers. Nightmare trip up the M1 and arrived just in time to see Gooding score. Francis got a warm welcome from us at the start of the second half.

Ian Royal I remember him saving a penalty from Morley only for "Stabber" to head it in on the rebound.

Shirley you mean "Nudger"??

Ian Royal is simply being homophobic.

Homophobic? Please explain.

He was Called Stabber, simple as that. It was because his wife caught him in the shower with Ian Bishop and some other West Ham chaps, and the knife was wielded.

That was a good game but my main memory was that I was passenger in a hire car that day and we were confronted at red traffic lights by a moronic Huddersfield fan when we were leaving.
He was trying to kick the car but fortunately my dad reached through the window and grabbed him by the head, the lights changed(we went through the red lights) and dragged him down the road. I bet he never tried that again!!

Being the victim surely he should have been called Stabee, with his wife known as Stabber.
