Royal Ginger genome Royal Ginger At what point is a negative reaction to a 4-1 defeat to a team in the same league inappropriate?
Let me introduce you to two wonderful things called perspective and context.
1) Newcastle have millions upon millions of £'s worth of talent more than we do.
2) Contrary to the consensus on here (even though most RFC fans were talking about them breaking the record) after a shaky start, that talent will seem them challenge. It's no disgrace to lose to them.
3) It's Stam's 4th game in charge, not his 20th, we have won two of those matches, chill the fcuk out.
4) We are playing with a midfielder shoe-horned into centre back. And it's not like we haven't been trying to address that problem in the transfer market.
5) By all accounts, 4-1 flattered them.
I think what is funniest, is that lots of you were predicting a heavy defeat in the Prediction thread, and are getting upset when it actually happened.
Is there a need to be quite so condescending? Probably not.
I don't like that McDermott was sacked and feel that the team would be more stable and less susceptible to a large defeat at this point in the season. I have not written Stam off, i am leaning towards disliking him but have not made up my mind. I have however decided that i don't like the reports emanating from the radio regarding a 4-1 loss to another team in the same division.
I have always been a supporter and many would say an apologist for the incumbent. I have an iffy feeling about this one.
I would appreciate you being less unpleasant.
Geez, I'd grow a thicker skin if I were you.
I was as big a Brian supporter as any, as evidenced by many of my posts defending him and I was gutted and angry when he was sacked - but he's gone - time to move on now. Besides, you have no evidence for your claim. You're just basing things off a gut feeling, whereas looking at the facts it's obvious Newcastle were bankers - as per the prediction thread. We'll see in the future whether your feeling about Stam turns out to be correct, but for now, I'll get behind the boys, and actually give Stam more than 4 games before I pass judgement.
Anyway, the vitriol isn't directed solely at yourself. It's more the fans who, after two results (both away, one against the league favourites) are calling the team a shambles. It needs work, I'm not denying that, we need a centre back and striker.
I'm just bored of knee-jerk reactionary negativity, it's no wonder the team struggle with that kind of atmosphere around.
