Royal_jimmy Not the most exciting signing but what do fans realistically expect? He's ok, he'll do.

Hope this doesn't mean CBC is loaned out again as I'd like to see him get more games for us. Rather we loan Anderssen out again instead.

I'd be happy for CBC to be loaned out, a number on here have already expressed doubts about CBC based on the games he had played before Millwall. Personally I'd rather he got vital experience and made mistakes elsewhere than behind an already insecure and leaky defence.

CountryRoyal
WestYorksRoyal Really hope he does well just to show up all the idiots writing him off. Seems like an experienced keeper who has lost form for a couple of years. No reason why he can't succeed here.

No one’s really writing him off on here? Just people saying a bit meh, but they’ll support him.

I see you're sensible enough not to venture onto Twitter. Very wise.

As we now have a highly experienced goalkeeping coach as our assistant manager, I'm sure they've done their homework on Button.

windermereROYAL Uproar on twatter as you would expect.

The same fans that thought Bowen was "cooking" when it looked like we were signing Pereira.

If the coaching staff felt we needed another keeper then I'm far happier with Button than Pereira. At least he's done a bit more than half a season in the SPL where, by his own admission, he was shit.

Stranded Mentioned on another thread but there was a story going round that we were after an experienced keeper who would likely be happy as a #2, as the hope was to give one of the younger keepers a run. Button would fit that mould esp as he hasn't played regularly for years and as his family stayed in the south when he went to WBA, means he can be at home again.

Would be very believable if we'd given Andresson any game time.

Aye. Not being impressed with the signing doesn’t mean you don’t then rate him by how he does on the pitch.

We did in pre-season, maybe the decision has been made and its CBC.

Reasonably pleased really, seems like a pretty sensible move all round on paper anyway. Had an opportunity to regain some form here and provide some experience for the younger lads as well. If we are wanting to build from the back, he seems suited to that as well.

Still gives us a good opportunity to pave a way for CBC or Andresson as well in the next 12 months or so.

WBA fans glad to see the back of him, some even rate him as their worst ever keeper as well as the usual "couldn't catch a cold" comments. Hope he proves otherwise, he surely has to be better than the 3 currently vying for the #1 otherwise there's be no point in signing him.

Reasonably happy with this, good track record back in the day, can hardly be worse than Lumley or Bouzanis.

Would personally have given the gloves to Jokull (actually I’d have renewed Southwood but that ship has sailed) but if Selles doesn’t feel comfortable with that then I think Button is probably as good as we could have hoped for.

Always baffled by the "must be better than" crowd. How often has that been said over the last 10 years only to be completely wrong.

Makes sense - hopefully he'll be their first choice and gets a full season of League One football under his belt.

Struggling to think of any frankly. Maybe Bacuna? Drinkwater? Even Puscas was at least an upgrade on Baldock and McNulty. Most of our big flops were always obvious downgrades, like Aluko, or were poor value for money but still better than the alternatives, like Mannone or Rafael.

That being said, his stats for last season were worse than both, and they weren’t good the year before either, so on reflection maybe there isn’t much reason for optimism.

Managers is probably the clearest cut. But happened with players too.

Hendrick, Loum and Fornah were definitely decried as 'must be better' than Rinomhota, Drinkwater and Laurent...

Likely to be their second choice as Thomas Holy has been their man keeper for a while, their other keeper though is only on scholar terms so it suggests he's going there to sit on the bench.

If they were then those people were idiots, especially for Fornah who was unproven.

Good point on managers though, especially the vague notion of just sacking the manager and getting anyone else in.

But I guess their argument is players replacing players already here as opposed to replacing players who have left?
