No need to say goodbye. Just carry on looking at other options (as they have said they are doing) and if they find someone who would do the same /better job then sign them.

It's beneficial to us to keep the contract on the table since any club then has to agree compensation with us.

Isn’t there just a standard formula for compensating clubs for the years of development of a player ?
If they have to agree a figure then presumably a player can’t be registered until it is agreed, meaning the club he’s leaving could be really vindictive and never agree. But if the player is a free agent then that would be totally unreasonable.

It's nothing to do with development, any player under the age of 24, the clubs have to agree compensation. Clubs are encouraged to work this out between themselves but if they can't, it goes to an independent panel decision.

Of course if the parent club doesn't care, they can just ignore the compensation.
