Injury watch 2025/26

by morganb » 25 Jun 2025 07:27

Pre-season training starts today so thought I would start up this season's injury watch thread.

A place to record injured players, what's wrong with them and how long they will be out for/when they are expect to be back

A source wouldn't do any harm

Well, as there’s only 9 players or so this watch should be fairly quiet this season.

Most of Twitter have injured their knees due to an involuntary jerking motion.

I think most of us wore our our knees praying for Dai to go and the club to survive last season. :)

Hunt on #ReadingFC absentees:

“Paudie missed it, there’s been a bug going around the camp.”

“Mattys just come in we didn’t wanna throw him in.”

“Harvey had a niggle last year in his foot and it’s just took a bit longer to heal than normal. He’s just a week behind the lads.”

Nothing on Elliott but has been seen in full training. Probably just giving him a bit more time

Elliott and Knibbs yet to feature in pre season, hopefully precautionary but these knocks hang about sometimes.

Elliott the bigger concern for me. He has so much potential, probably to rival Bindon. I'd love to see him play a starring role, but I'm not convinced he's robust enough. I believe he was one of the highest rated kids in the Chelsea academy and the primary reason it didn't work out was injuries. I wonder if we should rotate him this season even if he is fit. Make him a 30 games a season player instead of a 50.

Elliott should be playing at a much higher level, but unfortunately his injury issues have curtailed his development.

Last season, before his injury he was beginning to look much stronger and able to handle the physical stuff, even at times holding players off and using his body to protect the ball. He was also covering ground impressively quickly, to the point that I remarked to a mate that he reminded me of Steve Sidwell.

But then another bad injury happened just as he was looking really good and he's missed another half-season of games.

At least he’s back and able to partake of pretty much a full pre-season.
