Nameless
Ian Royal
LoyalRoyal22 I hope this outlay is because of the new ownership, because the club really are not in a position to be spending £2-£3m on a new player, if everything I have heard & read is to be believed.

If this isn't from the chinese its just more debt for the club.

If it's from the chinese it's still debt to the club. Just owed to them rather than the Thais or some third party.

Not necessarily. They could chose to loan the money, or not. Not all the money SJM put into the club was loaned.

And equally so could the Thais choose to loan the money or not.

Not given when we played it earlier this season Gunter played wing back.

Why is he replacing anyone? Can't he just be another option instead of sacrificing JVdB or Evans as CB's as we have done in a few games?

There's still 22 league games to play, right?

You don't spend millions to put someone on the bench.

I'm not saying he's going to be exclusive sub cameo player Ian.

What I'm saying is that Blackett, Gunter, McShane & Moore will not be able to start every single game.

Regardless, I doubt he is a replacement. More strengthening the squad; Surely It's great for Stam to start getting a selection dilemma, throughout the squad for that matter?

Too right, just ask Matt Mills, Emerse Fae or Greg Halford...

Don't understand why you'd include Gunter, who's a right back. But anyway.

It's pretty simple. A team is made up of eleven starting players. Currently, we have a pretty regular starting XI. If we sign a new player, there are two options, either those current eleven remain regular starters and the new player sits on the bench (or out of the squad), or one of them is replaced as a regular starter by the new player. It is not wise to spend millions, possibly breaking your transfer record if the player is going to sit on the bench and not start regularly. So either we'd be very unwise and bench him, or he'd replace someone in the starting line up. There isn't a third option where we play twelve.

Generally it's wise when making signings to bring in players who improve your first team. Or alternatively relatively cheap players with the potential to develop into much more valuable ones that you can bring through slower. It's stupid to buy expensive to develop slowly.

Mills was a regular. Fae and Halford were a waste of space and awful signings. Also, £2m was a far smaller proportion of our income in the PL. But basically yes, all of those are examples of why what I said is right.

Christ, take a breath. No need to be so condescending

I think it's 'pretty simple' this signing strengthens our rearguard as we currently only have 2 decent CB's.

You really are a patronising tool bag
Cheerio

Yeah, was expecting you to complain about me being condescending when I was going for clarity and brevity. Oh well.

You may have aimed for clarity and brevity Ian, but you got a direct hit on rambling condescention.

Taking your points sequentially:
1) No he wasn't. He only played half the games in his first season.
2) I agree, albeit your comment is completely irrelevant to the point in question.
3) See (2)
4) Despite what you say, Reading have in the past spent millions on players and put them on the bench (or left them out of the squad altogether).

No we haven't. It's pretty simple. A team is made up of eleven starting players. Therefore, by Ian Royals logic; we shouldn't sign anyone.
