A smooth changing of the criterion there, Kes. We were talking about whether Brian's job should be under threat, it shouldn't. Clarke was (in my opinion) rightly sacked because we were clearly and obviously in decline as a team due to the bad run of form and the fact his position had been made untenable.

Every team has good and bad runs of form during the season, and there are actual reasons for them - you shouldn't just blindly analyse the game through numbers. What was the reason for our good run of form? You could argue it was flash in the pan that coincided with Blackman suddenly and unexpectedly finding the net, and our defence also going through a good run. No surprise then when our form declined as Blackman's run of goalscoring form ended. It's also worth noting that our defence recently went through another good spell but we lacked a finisher to win us the games, which is why we have drawn a few, but still only lost 3 in 11 Championship games. You could also argue Huddersfield is also an aberration due to the squad rotation because we were focusing on the cup match.

And of course managers have NEVER turned form around have they?

So PSG have virtually won the the French League - if they rest players from now until the end of the season and don't win another league game we'll expect Blanc to get the sack? After all it's all about recent form.

To be fair, if PSG don't make, at the very least, the semi finals of the Champions League, Blanc could well go; to be replaced by whatever high profile manager fancies making themselves a lot of money quickly for doing very little.

Winning League 1 and sweeping aside CL also-rans like Chelsea isn't enough when you've spent as much money at the Qutaris have.

No, don't be ridiculous. :| If Clarke had won the league before his downturn in form it would be a completely different situation. Keep trying.

I didn't just say that it's all about current form. It's not black and white. Read my post again - I said you have to look into the reasons for the current form and not just the numbers and the stats. Look at the reasons for Clarke's good and bad form this season. It'll show you why sacking him was the correct decision, in my opinion.

Had, in your silly example, Clarke won the league then there would be no debate.

If Clarke hadn't wanted to speak to Fulham and completely soured his relationship with the club, there's no doubt he would've been given longer to turn the poor form around. That he wasn't is entirely his own fault.

Correct decision? That would be a valid point had things improved.

I'm not going round in circles again. I've already shown you a few times in this thread that we have been showing signs of improvement which you have just ignored or just repeated your point.

I'm interested to know Kes, had Clarke not been a Chelsea lad, that you would really care otherwise?

Which bring us back full circle to the point I made in the first place. It's all subjective and the only way we can judge is PPG under Clarke was higher than PPG under BM (at present). 8)

Nice try, and nicely dodged.

That's like saying music is subjective so therefore the album that sold the most is the best one.

Reaching number 2 has always been better than reaching number 11 in the charts.

Taking your Chelsea bias out of the equation if possible, do you think Clarke would've turned it round and got us promoted considering the sour atmosphere around the club following the Fulham saga?

Have the players or anyone involved with the club said there was a 'sour' atmosphere? Or is it just the fans?

Nigel Howe and the board were not happy with SC (a reliable source) Howe wanted shot of him and was waiting for an excuse to sack him after that and the poor form sealed it. Hardly a tenable working relationship between board and manager and one that would be likely to end up in promotion. No idea about the players but a) they aren't going to say as much to the media and b) look at the results during the whole saga. It clearly had an effect.

You didn't answer my question, by the way.

But you said recent form was important. Reading's recent form hasn't been very good. So surely you should be advocating the sacking of BM? As recent form suggests from your point of view suggests about a month.
