The strange thing is, we are always quite positive about our defensive players yet for the leaky defence constantly throwing away multiple goals per game we’d be winning matches with ease.

Where do our defensive problems come from?

Fullbacks don't cope with pace well. They also don't get enough support from the wingers/midfielders. Plus O'Connor is painfully slow and gets caught too high in the middle sometimes. So balls overver the top or Paudie having to get out to cover behind the fullback hurts us badly.

On top of that, when under high pressure in our third, we have no outball and just panic clwar, so it comes straight back. When we do get the ball, we rush forward to score and lose it rather than killing the tempo and resetting.

I don’t disagree with any of that, but Roberts and Nyambi look quick so surely we are on our way towards resolving your first gripe. I’m also not sure how, on paper, we don’t have the midfield cover what with playing two holding-mids all the time. Which leaves Paudie - might a Burns/Ward combo be worth a go?

Hound is probably spot on about our attack having too little impact on the control of the game, meaning however good our backline is, if they have to deal with chance after chance from our opponents, some are going to go in.

I remember watching games under McDermott with Karacan and Tabb in the holding positions: they didn’t often seem to do much that would make a highlight reel. But they broke up opposition attacks, kept the ball, laid it off neatly to the flashy players, and just felt like they created a space on the field that was fairly secure.

These days when the ball is received by our midfield it feels like a coin toss for which team will score.

Hopefully should remain that way, only Peterborough and Luton can overtake this PM. Peterborough are at Bradford and Luton travel to Cardiff so not exactly easy games for either.

Now just THREE points behind 5th (Huddersfield) & 6th (Bradford). May just be Huddersfield after this PM if Bradford avoid defeat. Bradford have 2 games in hand on Reading though so Huddersfield would still appear to be the team to catch at the moment especially as Reading have 1 game in hand (away at Mansfield) on the Terriers.

Normally I would agree, but then I remember that Wycombe keeper time-wasting from the first minute a couple of seasons ago and I didn't mind Pereira doing it today.

How did we win that? Wycombe completely dominated and we didn't do much other than score three times.

OK, that's kind of "Yes Mrs Kennedy, but apart from that, how did you enjoy your day in Dallas?" type situation for them, but we got lucky. The midfield was completely ineffective, just allowing them to get to our box before there was any kind of challenge, and could barely string two passes together.

I thought at half time it would be a good chance to assess what was going wrong, but it was like it was decided that because we were 2-0 up, everything was fine, and we did the same again.

Overall, great to get the win, but a half-decent team would have taken us to the cleaners playing like that.

Just got back, absolute dogshit but we got the 3pts so can't complain too much. Wycombe's defence was there for the taking in a game they otherwise dominated.

Need to play much, much better on Tuesday.
