I think we were all expecting to lose Doyle at the start of last season, so to have got another season and 18 goals out of him is excellent.

£6.5m or more is a good price for him. He may stay, he seems the sort who would be happy to if nothing better with any degree of safety came up. But lets face it. He'd be a mug to not move on to a most Prem clubs. And in Wolves he knows a few people at the club either from the international scene or Reading.

They're a pretty big club with potential and I thik have the best chance of staying up of the promoted teams. (I could see all of them staying up this season, I'd rate B'ham the least likely to manage it.)

It's a great price for him, and I don't believe for one minute he is worth that much. Same for Kitson when he left. I think that is two amazing bits of business!

I can't see Wolves coughing up £6.5m in one lump though. I can see a Kitson esq deal coming on. (althought that paid dividends in the end)

Nobody - absolutely nobody - coughs up a transfer fee in one lump sum (unless it's a very tiny one). They're all paid in instalments over up to 3 years.

So has your housemate asked Doyle's girlfriend if he's likely to go to Wolves bcause you were saying there was no way this would happen earlier?

You're a bit slow, Royalee.

Royalee
Wolfatthedoor Oxford off all you Royals - glad I got that off my chest!

Anyway, seems unlikely to me, but what are the chances of Wolves signing Doyle?

Absolutely no chance.

I thought based on the original rumour they'd already made an approach, which they hadn't at the time. This has only happened over the weekend - still no guarantee he'll go though because he's settled here. Either way best of luck to him.

He's been given permission to speak to them - hasn't said he's definitely off yet, sounds like it's 50/50.

100% he has gone - wont be at Reading next year - just whether any other club might not come in for him - cue Blackburn, Sunderland, Fulham etc.

Of course, you can't sign a player without approaching them.

I really cannot believe those who think that £6.5M is such a great deal. Doyle scored 19 goals in 2 PL seasons which puts him in the top 15 or so PL strikers over that period. I suspect that he negotiated a release clause of this relatively small size in case we did not get promoted and I think Reading FC will be disappointed with so little as I suspect we would have got £10M if we had cashed in at the end of last season. We took a gamble of retaining his services and in the financial sense it has not paid off.

Good luck to Doyle if he goes though as he has been a great servant of the club and deserves PL football. But I hope for his sake a bigger club comes in for him as I think he is better than struggling at the wrong end of the table as I fear Wolves will do.

£6.5 m is not such bad price, and of course it could be more than that.

I'd agree that he must be hoping that other clubs show interest. A move to Wolves is quite likely to be a season at the wrong end of the table whereas Villa, Everton, Fulham etc should be comfortable.

From what I'm told he seems to be holding out for that - I hope he does get a crack at playing for a decent Premiership club.

Why is he going to have a look round Molineaux if he's not interested in going there? :?

6.5 million for someone who's scored about two goals all year. Cheers, then!

Perhaps he's ready to be presuaded. he'd be a fool not to, especially if they's the only confirmed offer so far.

Plus perhaps he thinks that the fact that he is being seen to look round there means that other clubs will hurry up and come in.
