Presumably he's just quietly left? He hasn't been training with us has he?

Lacoste Clarke Update.....

We’re still looking. If I could get three more I would be happy.

“Obviously if I could get a few more than that I would be delighted, but I’m still looking at having at least three to come in.”

also talked up mcshanes leadership qualities....
new captain?

Z175 I think we need a Roberts/Yakubu style experienced PL level striker who is good in the air and can hold the ball up but I don't know of any realistic options. Peter Crouch maybe.
Hopefully more of a Jason Roberts than a Yakubu.
Ricky Lambert? - I suspect he will leave Liverpool and stay in the premier league though.

Looks like Stephen Kelly hasn't been answering his phone

http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... fc-9706281

Stephen Kelly’s Reading career appears to be over, according to boss Steve Clarke.

The experienced Republic of Ireland international’s contract expired this summer but he was offered a new deal by the club.

Royals have yet to have a response from the defender, however, and all recent attempts to contact him have proved unsuccessful.

So Clarke does not expect to see the 31-year-old return to Madejski Stadium.

“He’s gone quiet,” said Reading’s manager, who was satisfied with his side's display in last night's 2-0 win at Bristol Rovers .

“I haven’t heard anything from Stephen or his representatives for a number of weeks now, so we've moved on.”

When asked if he thinks the door is now closed on a possible return for Kelly, Clarke added: “Looks like it.”

I hope we don't read the following headlines in the press:

Footballer found dead in home, phone records show club called him 1 month after he died

Fan admits to holding player captive against his will until contract renewal deadline had passed

Player misses out on new contract after spending 3 weeks on hold waiting to get connected to the right department at club

Player found locked in dressing room since end of season, survived by drinking bathwater and eating mud off football boots.

It's surprising how few rumours are going around given that we're actively looking for new recruits. There's normally more on the URG page when we're not looking for anyone.

Its quite nice not knowing actually it gives that element of surprise, I wonder in this day and age whether it is possible that the first we heard about a signing was when it was announced on the reading fc website?? or are those days dead and gone??

I recall when we signed the gr8 Tommy Wright on loan. These were the days when your only source of information were the Evening Post, Teletext or Gowrings (Main Ford dealers in Wokingham and Newbury, supporting football in Berkshire) Royaline. The deal had been done late on a Friday night and the following day we were at Wolves and no-one had a clue who was in goal for us, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win. A combination of inaudible tannoy with thick black country accented PA announcer mean that when Wright kept goal in front of us in the first half the chant went up of "who the f*cking hell are you?" from the away support. It wasn't until Monday's Post that i knew who had played in goal for us.

In the old days you would listen to the radio or buy the Evening Post for the latest transfers.

I remember one HNA? curry when the main story was the surprise signing of John Oster and even though it was earlier in the afternoon many people still hadn't heard about it (Mr Angry included), Nowadays everyone would have heard a rumour about it at least a week earlier.

I know it would be impossible but wouldn't it be great to turn up at Birmingham and there be a complete surprise on the team sheet a completely new great signing
