Hmmmmmm..........with all the evidence provided, and taking into account the reasoned and logical arguments by fellow posters on here, I would like to change my mind on this subject; Coventry City should indeed be punished for breaching all of those rules and - frankly - they got off lightly, the bastards!

Snowflake Royal There's really no excuse for a professional club in the top two divisions of English football, and one of the richest divisions in the world, not to ensure they own and control the quality and availability of their own pitch.

It's all just badly run clubs taking unnecessary gambles to fiddle their finances. Ourselves included.

I’d be interested to know just how many football clubs DON’T own their own pitches.
My gut feeling is it would be quite a few

But often the ownership is just a paper thing. The critically important things is the rule 33.1 - primacy of use.

Given how many have overspent to financially dope their team and then got into trouble and had to get creative with the accounts, yes, probably lots.

Up to 7th/8th if we win, just the nature of the league this season.

Yeah hudders the only ones of the bottom teams to win so hardly must get points territory

Be nice of course - give us a 10 point plus cushion over the bottom 3

Worrying news for WBA fans.

Any headline that starts "Ron Gourlay assures....." is not going to end well!

Dean Smith will be sacked then. Just in time for Norwich to beat us

Norwich would more than likely beat us regardless of who's in charge, they're a better team than us.

We have a tricky run of fixtures over the next 5-6 weeks:

Swansea H
Norwich A
WBA A
QPR H
Stoke A
Sheffield Utd H
Watford H
Sunderland A

10pts from those fixtures would be a decent return IMO.

We have generally beaten the teams we should be so things should get easier from the middle of February.

Probably right but we should have beaten them at home when they were the leagues form team, so who knows - more chance of a win with Smith in charge than not. Agreed on the tough run, if we can pick up 7pts from the home games and find a win on the road somewhere, that would be an amazing return. 1 point per game from that lot though would be fine.

10 point cushion to the bottom 3 would be excellent but equally as important to me is that it begins to cut adrift the clubs from 18th down. There is already a 5 point gap between us in 16th and Bristol City in 18th - which outside 2nd to 3rd is the biggest gap in the division over 2 positions - whilst that can't change a win will push us 8 clear of 18th - with the run we have coming up, a gap of that size to 7 clubs would be massive and also give the impression to those down there that they are starting to be pulled into a mini league to stay up.

Reading can go 5th with an 11-0 win.

I'm not expecting more than 7pts from those games but we get some of the big hitters out of the way.
