We were never going to get anything from Arsenal, I think the main objective was to find a formation/lineup that might work at Wigan and the team in the last 15 minutes was something approaching that.
Midfield - Bikey goes into central midfield, we get some sort of grip on it. I think Bikey should have played in midfield for most of this season, our central midfield pairing has just been pathetic this year - no physical presence, no ball won, no control, no protection for the defence, no support for the strikers. Bikey at Wigan could actually give us some chance of holding our own in the middle, if we don't do that then we won't get anything. With him winning the ball, Matejovsky might actually see some of it and be able to show us his passing range. Harper isn't a ball winner or a creator, I wouldn't keep him in the team. What has he contributed for the last few games, or indeed for most of the season?
Defence - Wigan aren't as reliant on pace as Arsenal, so Murty could keep his place; Rosenior was good playing out of position and maybe Shorey had a kick up the arse today, on the other hand probably not. Duberry and Sonko should play against Wigan who are good in the air, Cisse would get beaten by Heskey.
Wingers - Kebe: Bambi on ice. At least he's quick and worked hard in defence, but his passing and control were just not up to Premiership standard. His use could be as a substitute to run at tired defences as he does have pace and once in a while he might produce a good run, but I don't think he's the right option to start. Convey played better than he has for a while but was still a bit overwhelmed, he provides a bit of creativity on the wing and worked hard as well so I'd keep him in.
So there is some encouragement for the remaining games, we may have found a team that can compete. If we have some presence in central midfield, a solid defence (Murty/Sonko/Duberry/Rosenior might do it), and maybe even Lita and Kitson up front, we have a team that could get something out of the games. Shorey and Hunt have hopefully realised they can't coast through games and keep their place. For me the best part of the game was when Bikey moved into midfield, I don't want to be harsh on Harper but it really did look like a boy being replaced by a man.
Oh yeah and Hleb is a pcunt of the highest order, I hope someone pokes him in the eye/face next season then tells the opposition to shut up!
