Agreed.

Apart from Emi Martinez. The guy is an arsehole.

Agreed. Good luck to them all, quite proud to think this cr@ppy little club played some part in their journeys on to whatever they go on to achieve.

By the way I’ve missed whatever it is that Emi has done to go from hero to zero, please advise.

He did that in response to abuse from the French fans in the stadium, which is fair enough in my book.

Watching Bristol City v Sheffield United in the play offs reminds me how far we've fallen under Dai. We were at that level when he bought us, but it looks like a different game to what we play in terms of quality.

I thought much the same. Considerably faster pace, higher levels of skill, highly entertaining game. Great to see City blow their chance, as they usually do. My least favourite team in the EFL.

Well, you'll be delighted that former Royal Rob Dickie is the biggest villain in blowing it for City with that ridiculous decision to haul down the Sheff Utd player when he was clean on goal.

Indeed, I was. At the time, I thought the ref had got it totally wrong, but after seeing it from all angles, I think a red card was the correct decision.

Poor Bristol, fielding ex Reading players in a play off campaign! No wonder their shot at promotion is now doomed.

By the way, really irritating plank of a commentator on Sky for the game last night, kept calling Nakhi Wells, Nicky Wells.

And the pundit dipstick saying that wasn’t a red card

Thinking the Blades will finally win a set of play offs after being in possession of the current record for PO failures:

  1. 1988 - Beaten in Division Three semi-final by Bristol City
  2. 1997 - Beaten in Division One final by Crystal Palace
  3. 1998 - Beaten in Division One semi-final by Sunderland
  4. 2003 - Beaten in Division One final by Wolves
  5. 2009 - Beaten in Championship final by Burnley
  6. 2012 - Beaten in League One final by Huddersfield
  7. 2013 - Beaten in League One semi-final by Yeovil
  8. 2015 - Beaten in League One semi-final by Swindon
  9. 2022 - Beaten in Championship semi-final by Nottingham Forest

Serial play-off failures Forest and Brentford were able to finally go up via the play-offs, maybe curses are just lifting, Sheff Utd break theirs next, then...us?

Should do. They're a level above all the other teams in there.

I want Coventry to go up. I quite like Lampard and I think Coventry deserve a chance in the Premier League. They've been through a lot of rubbish over recent years

Agreed. Sheffield U and Sunderland have had enough chances. I remember Coventry getting promoted to the top flight in the first season I was interested in football, would be good to see them back there after years of crap.

Really don't want Sheffield United to go up and finish 20th again. What's the point? I bet half their fans agree with me too.

I spent far too long yesterday trying to find who has the second worst record in the play-offs (i.e. the most unsuccessful campaigns without ever winning promotion). Eventually gave up, but I am wondering whether, if Sheffield U finally break their hoodoo - will we have a new record to add to our tally?

Preston have 9 without success, we're only at 6.

This is incorrect.

Preston’s play off record:

  1. 1989 - beaten in division 3 semi final by Port Vale
  2. 1994 - beaten in division 3 final by Wycombe Wanderers
  3. 1995 - beaten in division 3 semi final by Bury
  4. 1999 - beaten in division 2 semi final by Gillingham
  5. 2001 - beaten in division 1 final by Bolton Wanderers
  6. 2005 - beaten in division 1 final by West Ham United
  7. 2006 - beaten in division 1 semi final by Leeds United
  8. 2009 - beaten in championship semi final by Sheffield United
  9. 2014 - beaten in league one semi final by Rotherham United
  10. 2015 - won in league one final by beating Swindon Town

The worst PO record currently is Sheffield United with 0 wins from 9 after that I think it is one of Reading, Lincoln or Exeter with the worst run of failure in PO campaigns. However, given the imbalance in PO attempts, Preston and Sheff U would still be holders of worse PO records with 1 win in 10. And then it’d be Brentford (1 in 9) and Ipswich (1 in 8 ).

Annoyingly believe Huddersfield  are the second most successful PO side with 4 wins from 6 finals (10 campaigns), oddly though they haven’t actually scored a goal in a PO final since 1994 (the three 0-0 PO finals at all levels have all involved Huddersfield!).

Blackpool though are the most successful PO side with 6 wins from 8 finals in 9 PO campaigns.

It’s not done or dusted for the Blades yet either. They’ve played in FOUR play off finals and are still waiting to score a goal

Missed that when I was skimming through their many failures, I saw 3rd in League One and somehow convinced myself that was automatic promotion.

Despite the logic that if that were so, we'd be playing in the play-offs right now.

Actually, considering Preston, every team with a poor play-off record seems to have broken it in their latest attempt. If Sheffield United win the Championship play-offs, maybe it's a sign that we'll also win our next play-offs?
